25.01.2022 Congratulations to talented singers Alastair (Year 11), Charles (Year 10) and Charlotte (Year 9) who auditioned and were selected as part of the choir at the Australian Honours Ensemble Program (AHEP). This is a huge achievement for our students to be selected for this intensive program, and a wonderful opportunity for them to rehearse and perform alongside highly skilled peers from around Australia, while being mentored by a team of eminent internationally-recognised Conduct...ors from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. You are all outstanding ambassadors for our College. You can read more about the AHEP & State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) in our newsletter www.abpat.qld.edu.au/newsletters/illalong-16-october-2020

25.01.2022 Year 12 Formal 2020

25.01.2022 Two cheeky, surprise arrivals from the North Pole are causing quite a stir in Year 2 - but never fear, Santa's naughty elves are safely isolated, and have even come equipped with their own hand sanitiser! We are a little worried, however, about those rolls of toilet paper. What mischief could they be planning?! We'll have to wait and see!

24.01.2022 Mystical things have been happening on campus during recent school holiday periods! See if you can recognise some familiar locations in the promotion for Nickelodeon's Bureau of Magical Things Season 2!

24.01.2022 The Mount Barney adventure continues for our Gold and Silver Duke of Edinburgh participants. The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Queensland focuses on building the skills of young people to better equip them for life and work, through physical activity, community service and experiencing adventure. You can find out more about the program at https://dukeofed.com.au/. Great teamwork!

24.01.2022 Well done to our Prep and Year 3 Cross Country runners and Year 7 Aussie Sport Leaders!

23.01.2022 Can any budding botanists please help us to identify these unusual fruits popping up in our Community Garden? UPDATE: A very big thank you to Mrs Hall's knitters from The Yarn Mob for the beautiful, woolly festive 'fruits'

22.01.2022 Our extremely fortunate Senior Dancers have enjoyed two wonderful workshops with Billy Elliot - The Musical & Australia's Got Talent star, Aaron Smyth who is guest choreographer for their QCAA Assessment routine. The dancers will sleep well tonight - their punishing workshop also offered an intense warm-up for Senior Musical dance auditions at lunchtime! Thank you Aaron!

22.01.2022 A wonderful day was had by all at the 2020 Prep to Year 3 Mini Olympics! A huge thank you must go to our Junior School, HPE and Theatre Tech staff, as well as our tireless Year 7 Aussie Sports Leaders.

21.01.2022 Our Year 5 students have wholeheartedly thrown themselves into a fun day of team building and leadership activities, run by the PCYC Queensland Bornhoffen Leadership Development Centre. The mental and physical challenges encouraged students to work together to problem solve, hone their communication and coping skills, step up into leadership roles and learn when to step back to be a team player.

21.01.2022 We are so excited to announce our new-look A.B. Paterson College website is now live! www.abpat.qld.edu.au promo music credit: www.purple-planet.com/

21.01.2022 An end-of-term picnic, filled with Japanese sweet treats, was so much more than a celebratory sugar hit for Mrs Walduck's Year 2 Japanese Language students. The taste testing of new flavours also gave students the opportunity to test their language skills with Japanese words for 'I like', 'I don't like', 'I eat', as well as adjectives for 'delicious' and 'sweet'. The students compared their own lunchboxes to Japanese obento lunch boxes, and discovered a variety of snacks you may find in the sweet section of an obento. The savvy sweet-tooths also discussed the clever marketing by sweets manufacturers to tie in with the Tokyo Olympics. The most divisive flavour - green tea Kit Kats!

07.01.2022 A big shout out, as we head into Term 4, to our Performing Arts Wardrobe Manager Lisa Wise and her merry band of talented, crafty volunteers including Janet and Elizabeth who are hard at work costuming not one, but two College musicals! The task of finding, fitting, making, cleaning, sewing, mending, hemming and be-dazzling multiple spectacular costumes for each one of the hundreds of cast members involved in the Junior School production of Once Upon a Mattress and next year’s Senior School production of Guys & Dolls is enormous!! The costuming team is just one of the behind-the-scenes groups of magic makers who come together to put on our College productions. 05.01.2022 Hands up if you had a Pen Pal when you were a child. Do you remember watching the letterbox and waiting with excitement for the postie to arrive each day, and then the thrill of finally receiving a letter in the mail addressed to you. In this age of instant messaging and video chats, Lilly Pilly Learning Centre has wound back the clock, by becoming a Post Office, of sorts. ... Our Prep to Year 3 students are discovering the lost art of writing letters by joining the Australia Post Pen Pal Club. https://auspost.com.au//su/literacy-education/pen-pal-club You can read more about their experiences in this week’s Illalong Newsletter, out Friday.

05.01.2022 Be watching 9 News Gold Coast tonight (22nd Dec) for a glimpse of our talented Prep & Year 2 carolers!

04.01.2022 Believe us when we say, Green Thumbs & Busy Bees Gardening Clubs are nothing like 'watching grass grow' - in fact, it's a 'hive' of activity in the Community Garden! Miss Ross and her lunchtime gardening gurus have been very busy this past term, crafting biodegradable pots, harvesting the first strawberries and tomatoes, sniff testing, and making plans for yoga among the plants. We would like to say a very big thank you to Mrs Inthavong for her generous donation of plants, and to Mrs Hudson for kindly donating a native bee house kit - we're simply buzzing with excitement!!

04.01.2022 Our excited Prep runners gave every bit of energy they had to their first Cross Country carnival this afternoon. Even when exhausted in the home stretch, they still managed big smiles and squeals of delight. Well done! A special mention also to Mrs Hall and Mr Nicholls who laced up the joggers to join their students on the course, and thank you to Mr Cashman and our wonderful Year 7 Aussie Sport Leaders for your huge effort! music credit: https://www.purple-planet.com/

03.01.2022 A huge thank you and congratulations to Year 6 Planeteer, Siena for her dedication to the 10c Tuesday recycling project. Last night, Siena was awarded The Michael D Veivers Cup during our 30th Annual Speech Night - for outstanding commitment and leadership in the Junior School - and it is not hard to see why. Siena has been a great help to Year 6 teacher Miss Moore, helping to man the big red bin during Tuesday morning collections at Marble Arch.... After our last collection morning for the year, the Year 6 Planeteers have saved close to 7500 items from ending up in landfill, while also raising funds for the Community Garden. They would like to thank the A.B. Paterson College community for such wonderful support, and encourage everyone to save their 10c recyclables during the festive season ready for a big collection early Term 1, 2021. Well done Miss Moore, Siena and all our Planeteers!

03.01.2022 The stunning scenery at Mount Barney, captured by Mr Sole, is a fitting reward for the hard work of our Duke of Edinburgh campers.

03.01.2022 To our Vocal Festival entrants, organisers and judges - we could sing your praises all day! Across August and September, we enjoyed a total of three full days of singing, with hundreds of young artists from Prep right through to Year 12 given the opportunity to perform - that's a lot of ribbons, and a whole lot of chocolate frogs handed out by Assistant Head of Performing Arts, Miss Rachel Newcombe! Well done everyone, and keep singing!

02.01.2022 Year 7 Aussie Sports Leaders - what an amazing job you have done organising, encouraging and supporting our Prep to Year 3 students at today's Mini Olympics! Congratulations! And, well done to our Mini Olympians - great work everyone! music credit: https://www.purple-planet.com/

02.01.2022 Why not pick up your children from Marble Arch today, AND pick up some of the freshest produce on the planet! Our Busy Bees & Green Thumbs have harvested celery, mint, beetroots, kale, bok choy and lettuce from the Community Garden... just to name a few of the delicious veges and herbs on offer. 'Lettuce' eat greens tonight!
