23.01.2022 Tn koutou Tn koutou Tn koutou katoa. (Greetings to you all). Happy Waitangi Day! February 6 is a day of celebration in New Zealand/ Aoteoroa that commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840. This week we have been and will continue to participate in some activities to commemorate this day. Including some Maori craft, songs and stories. This enables the children or tamariki the opportunity to gain an understanding of the shared history of one of Australia’...s closest neighbours, Through this continued learning about cultures and the related traditions our tamariki are building a sense of identity and knowledge of the world around them. There are a number of celebrations being held around the Gold Coast where you can have the opportunity to experience traditional Maori cultural performances, Kiwi entertainers, traditional hangi meals, Maori clinics and stalls. We recommend joining in the celebrations this Saturday to share what Waitangi Day is to New Zealanders living on the Gold Coast, to honour Maori and Kiwi culture, with a focus on Whanau (family) and enjoy some ka pai kai (great food). Kia kite koe i muri (see you later).

23.01.2022 Dear Parents As we are sure you are aware, the Australian Government has announced that all organised, non-essential mass gatherings attended by more than 500 people must be cancelled from Monday 16 March 2020. The announcement clearly stated that this does not apply to schools or early childhood centres at this time. ... The current response to COVID-19 is all about containment, we ask all families to pay extra attention to health and hygiene measures employed at home with your children, particularly the use of soap and, if soap is not available, hand sanitiser. You can be assured we are reinforcing this with the children at the centre. Being as small a centre as we are this is much easier to monitor and maintain. However each one of us play a vital role in this effort and we ask for your continued support in this containment effort. Please do not send your child to kindy if they are unwell. These directions are all about supporting a national effort to contain and slow the spread of COVID-19. As we have already seen across the world, this situation is likely to continue for some time and is evolving. We remind you that this is not cause for panic but rather forethought and preparation. As such, as a centre and as a community, we must all prepare over the short, medium and long term.Talk to your children about the importance of hygiene and as a family take all necessary actions to support your child’s, and the centre’s health and hygiene and act in a protective and preventative manner to help limit the spread of coronavirus. We will continue to offer a programme filled with opportunities for the children to develop and have fun and the centre will run as per usual. This will assist in minimising any distress around conversations the children may be overhearing. We will also continue to provide communication as Australia’s response to COVID-19 evolves. Thank you for your vigilance in helping us manage this public health issue.

08.01.2022 Today we took part in the National Simultaneous Storytime. Miss Jo didn’t quite order the book in time for it to arrive today so we watched author Lucinda Gifford live reading her story Whitney & Britney Chicken Divas. National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre...-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 20th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6. By facilitating NSS we aim to: * promote the value of reading and literacy, * promote the value and fun of books, * promote an Australian writer and publisher, * promote storytime activities in public libraries and communities around the country, * and provide opportunities to involve parents, grandparents, the media and others to participate in and enjoy the occasion. #NSS2020 #1millionkidsreading

08.01.2022 A Brighter Beginning ELC will be closed tomorrow for the Australia Day public Holiday. We recognise that this day is referred to as Invasion Day by many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and that the negative effects of colonisation continue to have very real impact on the lives of many Indigenous Australians. The Yugambeh people are the traditional custodians of the land we work and play on. We respect, acknowledge and learn about the Yugambeh people in this work and p...lay and will continue to do so, working towards reconciliation. We encourage you to explore the Coast’s rich indigenous culture, significant landmarks and art. The Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Burleigh Heads is just one of the ways you can do this. We hope all of our families have an amazing long weekend. Go out and enjoy some of the many celebrations available both in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Celebrate this beautiful country we live in and the many cultures that make it great, in particular its Indigenous culture.
