25.01.2022 Some of you may remember this beauty. The Holden 48-215. Produced by Holden between 1948 and 1953, this gorgeous car was marketed as the coupe utility and nicknamed the Hoden FX. The design was originally developed in America by Chevrolet but wasn't used ins the states as it was considered too small for the U.S market. One of the images below shows Prime Minister Ben Chifley unveiling the Holden 48-215 on the 29th of November 1948 in front of the Fishermen's Bend Social Hall... (which later became the head office of General Motors-Holden Ltd.). Producing about 60hp, this three-speed manual was later replaced by the Holden FJ series in 1953. #classiccars #classicaustraliancars #holden #absautomidland

25.01.2022 This Japanese Jeep rival has dominated the Australian market and is renowned for its amazing capability, but where did it all start? The Toyota Fj25 Land Cruiser first appeared in 1955 as the second generation of Japans efforts to create a high quality four wheel drive. After the discovery of the Willy Jeep in the early 40's the Japanese military went about making a rival, which after 10 years of development, became the Toyota BJ prototype. ... To test the vehicle they drove it up to the sixth stage of Mt Fuji (the first vehicle to ever climb that high) the Japenes knew they had made a car that could stand alongside the Land Rovers in The UK and The Jeep in the US . By the time the Fj25 arrived in the mid 1950s the design had become much more appealing, sold well in Japan as well as overseas and quickly gained a reputation for being unbreakable.

20.01.2022 Not many things like being under pressure, but this little guy does! Brake fluid ensures that your car can slow down when needed. When you put your foot on the pedal this sends the fuild to the brakes, pushing the pad onto the rotor. So essentially, no fluid = no brakes... Did you know that brake fluid over time can go bad, which is why it's so important to get this replaced every time you get your oil changed.

19.01.2022 This week we wanted to tell you about a neat trick that will help at the petrol station. Have you ever pulled up to a petrol station to fill your tank and forgotten which side your petrol tank is on? You think it's on the right so you drive into the station, park next to a bowser, and when you get out you realize it's on the left! You now need to decide whether to pull the nozzle around your car and fill up with everyone staring at you or get back in line to use the bowser ...on the left-hand side. What a waste of time! Well, If you look down at your petrol gauge on your dashboard you will see a small arrow next to your bowser logo. This little arrow will tell you which side your tank is on. Now you will never have to stress when going to fill up your tank. #petrol #fillyoucar #petrolbowser #petroltank #absautomidland #abstidbits

16.01.2022 Were back again to answer the simple car questions people are a little too nervous to ask. Question: How do you replace window wiper blades? ... Answer: Lift the wiper from the windscreen so its standing outwards from the vehicle. The wiper will be on a pivot hinge so it will lift up easily. To remove the old blade, squeeze the end with pliers and pull the blade out to remove it from the wiper. Insert the new wiper blade into the wiper assembly claws and lock the metal retaining clip into the end of the claw. From the end of the wiper blade, cut off the excess rubber. (Note: there may be a skinny long piece of metal running inside the blade. This piece of metal is easily cut or can even be snapped in some cases to fit the blade). Lower the wiper back towards the windscreen, ensuring the whole rubber blade is flush on the windscreen. Congratulations, you now know how to replace your wiper blades!

14.01.2022 Have you ever wanted to know how to read a dipstick but felt too nervous to ask? here is your chance. Firstly check your car manual and see if the oil should be checked while the engine is hot or cold. If you need to check it cold do so before starting the car. If it needs to be warm, check the oil once youve driven the car. Ensure that your car is parked on level ground. This will allow to accurately read the level of oil in the engine. ... Open the bonnet of your car and find the dipstick. Itll be a circular cap with a handle which can be pulled out. The dipstick is usually marked with a small icon of an oil can. Pull the dipstick out of the engine and use a rag to wipe it clean then insert it back into the tube. Ensure that you push it all the way down. Pull the dipstick back out and read the oil level on both sides of the dipstick. Dipsticks are usually marked with the "optimal" level which can either be a pair of pinholes with lines marked MAX (for maximum) and MIN (for minimum), the letters H (for high) and L (for low) or a crosshatched area on the dipstick. If the oil is inside the crosshatching, between H and L, between MIN and MAX, or between the pinholes, then your oil level is fine, although If it doesnt reach the markings you will need to add oil. Once youre all done dont forget to put the dipstick back!

08.01.2022 Would you like to know how to check whether your tyre is worn out or not? its actually very simple once you know! The legal minimum tread depth in Australia is 1.5mm. This means that none of the treads across the whole tyre can be shallower than this. If it is, you are driving illegally and youre putting lives in danger. The recommended depth to change you tyres over is around the 3mm mark. So how do you check your tyres?... Get your tape measure out and place it inside the straight grooves in the middle of the tyre. From there you can measure how deep these grooves are. Check across the whole tyre to make sure that certain parts arent wearing more than others. If you measure above 3mm then you are fine, if not then you should get your tyres changed immediately.

08.01.2022 Have you ever wondered how to jump start your car? There are some amazing products on the market which can do it for you without the need for a second car, but if youre stuck with a dead battery, some jumper cables and a mates car heres how you do it! Step 1. Place both vehicles in park or neutral, shut off the ignition in both cars and get your jumper cables ready. Step 2. Attach one of the red clips to the positive terminal of your battery. It has POS or + on it, or ...its bigger than the negative terminal. Step 3. Then attach the other red clip to the positive terminal of the other car. Step 4. Take the black clip and attach it to the negative terminal on the other battery. Step 5. And attach the last black clip to an unpainted metal surface on your car that isnt near the battery. (you could use one of the metal struts that holds the bonnet open) Step 6. From there you can start the vehicle and let the engine run for a few minutes. That should charge your battery enough to get you going. And there you have it, its that simple!

05.01.2022 Have you ever had a flat tire? ever needed to jack your car up but didnt know how? well, ABS Midland is here to help. Before you go ahead and jack your car, there are a few things you should do first: > Always block the wheels before jacking up your car (so it doesnt roll off) > Always jack your car on level ground (if you dont the car could come away from the jack)... > Put the handbrake on and place the car in park or 1st gear (this will engage the parking brake so the car doesnt roll) 1. Place the jack under the jack point (the part of the vehicle that it should contact when raised). To find the proper place to position the jack for your particular vehicle, check your owners manual 2. Lift the vehicle by using the jack. (If you have a scissor jack, insert the rod or wrench over the knob, and then crank. If you have a hydraulic jack, place the handle into the appropriate location and pump up and down) 3. Ensure that the car is stable and will not fall off the jack before replacing your tire or getting under the vehicle. 4. Once you are finished gradually lower the car down using the jack by cranking in the opposite direction on your scissor jack or by placing the handle into the release slot (usually on the top or the side of the hydraulic mount) and twisting anticlockwise. And thats it! Four easy steps to jack your car up and get out of a tight spot we will all find ourselves in one day.

04.01.2022 Happy Monday to all our followers! Before you go on your holidays up north now is the perfect time to get your car serviced and ready for the red dirt and the long-distance drives.

03.01.2022 Why do we have a temperature gauge in our car? what is it telling us? and how do we know if our engine is at the right temperature? If youre confused about why engine temperature is so important this is the post to help. Essentially, your cars engine cools down by using the radiator, overflow bottle, thermostat and cooling fan. This cooling system removes about 1/3 of the heat coming from your engine by circulating coolant throughout to keep an optimum temperature. If you...r engine becomes too hot plastic can melt, rings and pipes ban crack and your engine will lose power. Too cold and your engine oil can stop flowing and your battery can produce less current, causing issues with driving. Normal Engine Temperature Most cars when running will sit around 90 to 100 degrees celsius. This will be displayed by the needle sitting in the centre or a little higher than centre on the gauge. If your cars gauge needle isnt sitting around the centre then its important to know why. Cold Engine Temperature Unless you are in cold climates (and havent added antifreeze) your engine will be cold for the first few minutes. If after a while it still shows cold that could indicate a faulty gauge or a faulty thermostat (which lets a certain amount of coolant through the system at a certain time). If too much coolant is getting through because of your thermostat your engine will stay cold. Hot Engine Temperature A high temperature is a lot more serious and its best to stop driving if the needle is close to red (its good to turn off the air con and wind the windows down too). If your car is leaking coolant you might not have enough to cool the engine down. Youll likely notice a puddle under your car if this is the case. Otherwise you can check the your radiator cap. This maintains the pressure on the system to stop overheating (though dont remove the cap if your engine is hot, the pressure could cause coolant to spurt out). Now you know the different causes of a hot and cold temperature gauge and can understand why its so important to get regular servicing and ensure you never drive when your temperature gauge isnt in the centre.

01.01.2022 Take care on the roads this long weekend & remember, its double demerits!

01.01.2022 Rotors, or discs, are an important part of every vehicle's braking system, working with the brake pads, calipers and wheels to help you stop when you need to. It's all about friction and the increasing wear over time means your rotors will deteriorate and eventually need replacing. This is a simple job that can be the difference between stopping before you hit an object or after. If it's been a while since you've had your brakes checked give us a call.
