25.01.2022 7 DAYS - 7 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM DAY 1 - VITAMIN C (Part 2/3) Now its time to share the top food sources of Vitamin C. See picture!... Its all good to know good food sources, but how much should you consume per day? I recommended consuming at least -1 cup of vitamin C-rich foods at each main meal. Choose both fruit and vegetable sources! (Later today I will comment on vitamin C supplementation)

21.01.2022 7 DAYS - 7 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM DAY 1 - VITAMIN C (Part 3/3) Is a supplement a good idea as a preventative?... Along with consuming vitamin C-rich foods (listed in an earlier post today), a supplement can be beneficial for keeping your defenses up against harmful pathogens. The secret is in the dose. We have a threshold of how much vitamin C we can absorb at one time. You will absorb much more by taking a small dose (ie. 250mg) four times a day, than taking one 1000mg tablet. Not quite as convenient, but a whole lot more beneficial.

18.01.2022 7 DAYS - 7 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM DAY 2 - GINGER Ginger root has a strong anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial effect on the body. It contains zingibain that has anti-parasitic properties too.... If unwell, consume: 1000mg (1 gram) per day of dry powdered ginger root/capsule, or 10 grams fresh ginger root As a preventative, take 10g fresh ginger root 3-4 times per week.

15.01.2022 7 DAYS - 7 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM DAY 5 - GARLIC Garlic contains an array of vitamins and minerals, as well as the flavonoid, Allicin. Due to all these constituents, garlic is a powerful anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant agent that has been shown to reduce the incidence and severity of the common cold, as well as other infections. ... RAW vs COOKED For the anti-microbial properties of garlic, raw is best. However, its antioxidant value stays the same cooked or raw. PREPARATION TIP You can improve the garlic benefits by chopping or crushing it and letting it sit for about 10 minutes before eating it or heating it for a recipe. The chopping activates the alliinase enzymes, and the sitting allows these enzymes to convert some of garlics allin into allicin. STORAGE It is best stored at room temperature and should always be kept dry. DOSAGE One clove a day keeps the doctor away! ;)

If youre someone who gets sick relatively often, has white spots on your nails or has any form of inflammatory skin condition, youll want to look at optimising your zinc levels! Food sources: zinc is found in any food that contains protein. Here are some of the highest sources, but if youre familiar with other protein-rich foods, youll get zinc too.

11.01.2022 7 DAYS - 7 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM DAY 7 - SLEEP (Part 2/2) HOW TO HELP YOU SLEEP... - Avoid using any electronic device at least 1 hour before going to bed. The blue light omitted from screens down-regulates Melatonin production (the hormone that makes you sleep soundly). - Sleep in complete darkness to ensure healthy Melatonin production. You should be able to hold your hand 10cm in front of your face and not be able to see it! - Take a hot bath 1.5-2 hours before bed. Raising your body temperature has been shown to help induce sleep. - Place a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow, as it has calming properties to help you settle off to a deep sleep. Nowadays, its quite well known that this vitamin is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radical damage and boosts white blood cell count.... Despite this knowledge, a number of people dont consume enough! Some of the symptoms shown indicate suboptimal levels. 08.01.2022 7 DAYS - 7 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM DAY 7 - SLEEP (Part 1/2) Sleep time is your immune systems time to shine!... Research shows that people who dont get enough quality sleep are more likely to get sick after being exposed to a virus, such as the common cold. Lack of sleep can also affect how fast you recover if you do get sick. During sleep, your immune system releases particular cytokines needed to help fight infections and inflammation. Inadequate sleep can decrease production of these protective cytokines. In addition, infection-fighting antibodies are reduced during periods when you dont get enough sleep. HOW MUCH SLEEP DO YOU NEED PER NIGHT? Adults: 7-8 hours Teenagers: 9-10 hours School-aged children: 10+ hours (Tips to help you sleep still to come!)

08.01.2022 7 DAYS - 7 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM DAY 6 - PROBIOTICS Did you know that about 80% of your immune system lives in your gut? So, keeping it healthy is essential to having strong immunity!... Foods high in probiotics include: Sauerkraut, Kim Chi, Kefir yoghurt. A quality probiotic can also be used, but make sure it has the strain Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG. MAKE YOUR OWN SAUERKRAUT 1. Chop or shred 1 room temperature cabbage. Add to a mixing bowl. Sprinkle with 2 Tbsp salt. 2. Tear the cabbage with clean hands for about 10 minutes, until there is lots of liquid in the bottom of the bowl. 3. Stuff the cabbage into a class jar, pressing the cabbage underneath the liquid. If necessary, add a bit of water to completely cover cabbage with liquid. 4. Cover the jar with a tight lid. 5. Leave on the bench at room temperature for 2-3 days. Open the jar daily to release excess pressure. 6. Eat and enjoy! 7. Store in fridge.
