21.01.2022 IWD 2020 and as womens empowerment is a key focus for ABV, we approached one of our SBPs Liane Arno for her thoughts on women entrepreneurs and the development space: "Throughout my career in occupations predominantly occupied by men I made a decision early on to excel as a first class woman rather than a second class man. There is such an inclination to take on the characteristics of a bully when in the police force and then in industrial relations. And so now as I enter ...my years of active retirement volunteering for Australian Business Volunteers, I take so much joy in teaching and mentoring women entrepreneurs in societies dominated by men. These women are the force of their businesses quietly and skilfully influencing their men and their communities, managing the money and their extended families who so often put their hand out for money just because. I never under estimate these quietly spoken women who have such incredible underlying strength and tenacity. I am hugely privileged to be able to volunteer for ABV which targets women in business which is run by a canny and compassionate CEO who has gathered a great team around her. I am equally privileged to be able to share my role with ABV with my life partner who draws on his experience of mentoring hundreds of people in business to be the wise sage, so understanding of women and their importance in these communities."

11.01.2022 Over the month of October ABV ran its successful leadership immersion training program in Vietnam for Japanese consulting firm, ABeam. The leadership immersion program is part of ABVs corporate skilled volunteering program offering, based on our long history of running similar programs with IBM, NAB and others. One of the partnerships the October immersion focused on was with Imagator, a small photo editing company with a mission to Create a unique socially responsible ente...rprise which provides equal employment opportunities and accessibility at work. Imagtor is dedicated to employing people with disabilities and currently 48% of staff employed are people with disabilities. The project aim was for Abeam to support the team at Imagtor to address a range of issues within the business that are currently limiting its effectiveness. Skilled Business Professional and program Facilitator, Jo-Anna Crawford-Bryde, commented "This project is an outstanding exemplar of how targeted support from a group of skilled professionals can result in high impact outcomes and results for an inspiring social enterprise in a developing country as well as providing an authentic learning and training opportunity for visiting consultants." The work of the Abeam consulting teams has provided high quality expertise resulting in Imagtor being able to streamline its workflow processes, increasing productivity, quality and effectiveness and now has the requested customised specifications for a new MIS that it can take to tender. These achievements would not have been possible without the support of this valuable program. This project is a great example of mutual benefit. The Abeam team have been immersed in an real life global leadership situation gaining valuable learning experiences, skills and insights into working in a social enterprise and a developing country.
