24.01.2022 DIY #1 - Foaming Hand Wash 200ml This is a great place to start with DIY projects as it only has a few ingredients and it's absolutely fail safe. Oh and kids will love using this fluffy, foamy soap! So they are more likely to wash their hands! ... Some of the benefits of making your own foaming hand wash include: Reducing single use plastic Reducing chemicals and additives Ingredients: 55 mls castille soap 15 mls of witch hazel 130 mls purified water (cooled boiled water works too) 10 drops of your favourite essential oils* (my favourite blend is 2 drops jasmine, 3 drops lime and 3 drops lavender) Container: A foaming soap dispenser Method: 1. Rinse the dispenser. 2. Add Castille soap and witch hazel to the dispenser. 3. Add the essential oils and mix. 4. Let the mixture sit for a few minutes so the oils can disperse through the soap and witch Hazel. 5. Add the water slowly so as not to foam up the mixture. 6. Put the lid on the dispenser tightly and turn it upside down a few times to mix everything together. 7. You are ready to go! Tips: 1. You can use have an empty foaming dispenser if you already have one handy. Just give it a good wash. 2. Using witch hazel and essential oils such as lavender, lemongrass and tea tree extend the life of your hand wash as they all act as preservatives. So there you have it! I would love to see photos of your own creations and Essential Oil combos! So please feel free to add them to this post! Jeanette xx

13.01.2022 DIY #3 - Fabric Softner - 1 Litre This is one of my favourites because it is so simple and leaves my washing soft without any chemicals. My little one also has mild eczema and normal shop bought fabric softeners irritate his skin. This one doesn't which is great! ... In this batch I used Pink Himalayan table salt because that's what I had on hand. It makes the liquid a pretty pink colour which is a nice touch, but any regular fine salt will do. Benefits: Reduces chemical use - which is great for the environment and for people with sensitive skin. Reduces single use plastic Leave washing soft without the residue that commercial softeners leave. Ingredients: 1/2 cup of fine salt 1 cup of boiling water 3 cups of white vinegar 12 drops of essential oils (optional) Tools: Glass jug Metal spoon 1 litre Glass jar with lid Method: 1. Add the salt and the boiling water to the glass jug and stir until the salt is dissolved. 2. Add the white vinegar and stir until it's all blended. 3. Let the mixture cool down to around body temperature before adding essential oils. 4. Add the essential oils and stir until combined. 5. Poor into glass jar. 6. Use approximately 1/2 a cup with each load and add it to the fabric softener dispenser in your washing machine. Tips: 1. Give it a good shake before each use incase the ingredients have settled. 2. Use any combo of essential oils that you like. I like 3 Jasmine, 3 lavender, 3 lemon. 3. Again, if you are going to be making a lot of DIY home products, try sourcing your ingredients from bulk suppliers to make it cheaper and reduce waste. A couple of my favourite suppliers are: Oils for Life Australia: https://www.oilsforlifeaustralia.com.au Essentials Only: https://essentialsonly.com.au Blants: https://www.blants.com.au Aussie Soap Supplies: https://www.aussiesoapsupplies.com.au/

13.01.2022 DIY #2 - Homemade Dishwasher Tablets: This one takes a lot more effort and can be a bit tricky. But if you want to reduce the amount of harmful chemicals you are cleaning your dishes with and releasing into the ocean, then this is worthwhile. It works a treat and if you want to reduce harmful chemical use even more you can use vinegar as a rinse aid rather than a commercial shop bought one. ... You can make these tablets from household products you likely have at home already. But if you are serious about DIY house and beauty products then it is more economical to research and source your ingredients from bulk or wholesale suppliers. *Ingredients: 300 gms bicarbonate soda** 250gms citric acid 200 gms natural borax (optional) 100gms fine salt Essential oil (optional) * this recipe yields approximately 48 tablets **most recipes list carbonate soda, which is more caustic and traditionally used in natural cleaning products, but is still safe to use. However, if you only have bicarbonate soda on hand, then this works too! Tools: stainless steel or glass bowl Silicon ice cube trays Metal spoon Method: 1. Add all ingredients to the bowl (sift the bicarb/carb soda) 2. Mix until everything is evenly combined. 3. Spoon 1 or 2 teaspoons of dry mixture into the ice cube trays. 4. Press the mixture as firmly down as you can into the trays. 5. Leave trays in a warm and dry room for at least 24 hours until the mixture is set and firm in the moulds. 6. Turn the moulds upside down and gently push the tablets out if they don't slide out. 7. You can leave for a further 12 hours on a tray to help dry and set the tablets even more. 8. Store in an air tight container. 9. Optional - before use, you can add a drop or two of essential oil to your tablet. I like to use citrus oils such as lemon, lime or orange. Tips: 1. Trust the recipe. Yes it's all dry ingredients, but they will bind together in the moulds. 2. Definitely use silicon ice cube trays, it is easier to get the tablets out. 3. If all else fails you can store the mixture in an airtight container and use it as dishwasher powder!

09.01.2022 DIY #4 - Dishwashing Liquid 500ml This is super quick and easy to make. The glycerin helps maintain the bubbles in the water longer, but that's really all it does. So feel free to leave that out if that's what you prefer. Chemical free... ECO Friendly Reduce single plastic use Ingredients: 1 cup of cool boiled or filtered water 1 cup of Castile soap 1 teaspoon of vegetable glycerin (optional) 1/3 cup of white vinegar 20 drops of essential oils (optional) Tools: 500ml bottle Small kitchen funnel Method: 1. Using a small funnel, add the water to the bottle. (If you are using boiled water, make sure you cool it down beforehand). 2. Slowly add the castile soap so that it doesn't lather up in the bottle. 3. Add the glycerin and white vinegar. 4. Add the essential oils (optional) 5. Put the lid on the bottle and gently turn it upside down and then upright again about a dozen times. This will mix everything together and help the oils disperse through the mixture. 6. Use as you would normally use regular dishwashing liquid. Tips: 1. I find using citrus essential oils is great for cleaning products. They are powerful cleaners! 2. I use a glass Amber bottle for this detergent to help maintain the integrity and benefits of the essential oils.
