I have a passion for words and writing, and I am a specialist in tertiary education. I have had over 30 years of experience in the university sector and I am well placed to assist local and international students with their essays, theses and other publications. I am also able to assist with all other writing genres and education needs in the wider community. Prior to embarking on my freelance editing career I was a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at Flinders University for 20 years, where I specialised in teaching and researching African Politics and International Relations. I was also the Managing Editor of the Australasian Review of African Studies (2009-2018), and President of the African Studies Association of Australasia and the Pacific (2012-2018). You can read my book Guns and Guerrilla Girls: Women in the Zimbabwean Liberation Struggle (2004) which was based on my PhD research in Zimbabwe in the late 1990s. This is the publication that taught me the importance of getting a good external editor with knowledge of tertiary education! As a former academic I have written and published many chapters in books, including: Reflections on the Feminist Dilemmas of Fieldwork (2019); Post-Independence Africa: Challenges and opportunities (with David Jolley, 2018); Education in Australia’s Relationship With Africa (2013); Locating Australian Engagement with Africa (with David Mickler, 2013); Australian Foreign Policy Toward Africa (2012) and The State of African Studies in Australia (with Elizabeth Dimock, 2007). I have also co-edited a few books including: African Frontiers: Insurgency, Governance and Peacebuilding in Postcolonial States (with John Idriss Lahai, 2015); New Engagement: Contemporary Australian Foreign Policy Toward Africa (with David Mickler, 2013); South Sudanese Diaspora in Australia and New Zealand: Reconciling the Past with the Present (with Jay Marlowe and Anne Harris, 2013); and Africa on a Global Stage (with Gerry Pye, 2006). However, my most rewarding work as an academic has been as a supervisor to the Masters and PhD Students who have engaged my services. Being able to assist early career researchers in developing and writing their 50,000 100,000 words theses, was also both intellectually challenging and inspiring. Now as a freelance educational consultant I am available to assist all students, researchers and writers, in most disciplines and genres, with all of their planning, editing, writing, and educational needs.
