10.01.2022 Creating a healthy work/team environment. Managing (and avoiding) narcissists in your workplace. Narcissism is on the rise, and narcissists can be extremely destructive and counterproductive in the workplace. Having worked in several jobs where managers were narcissists, this topic is particularly important to me. These toxic, maladapted egos corrupt and corrode group dynamics rather than enhance them, and unless these people are managed appropriately, they can proactively sabotage group projects in order to engender themselves with (false) power and self-importance. This TedX talk is a very simplified precis of this issue, but it offers some clear and effective strategies for managing these toxic personality types.
