22.01.2022 Tip of the Week - #3 MATHS TEST TIPS YOU MUST FOLLOW Let's talk strategy: 1. Highlight key information while reading each question.... 2. Spend 10 seconds JUST THINKING about how to do the question. Do not do any writing in this time. 3. Check your answer after completing EACH question. 4. Ask yourself: Have you answered all parts of the question Have you given the right units? 6. Do the easier questions first. You should select which ones these are during the reading time. 7. Think about HOW you will approach harder questions during your reading time. 8. Dont spend too long on any particular question. Move on and come back later if its too hard. 9. On average, you should spend 1 minute per mark. E.g. if a question is worth 5 marks, you shouldnt take longer than 5 minutes. If you are, MOVE ON!

21.01.2022 We would like to give special thanks to our client Farzana Joarder who has taken the time to write a heart-felt testimonial on our behalf. Your trust in ACADEMIS and your appreciation of our work, means much more to us than we can say. TESTIMONIAL: Morium Khan is an exceptional young woman. Ive known her since she was a child. I have seen numerous examples of her talent and am thoroughly impressed by her diligence and work ethic. I would like to take this opportunity to exp...ress my appreciation for Moriums assistance with my daughter Priyanka Joarder. She is a hard worker who has shown evidence of her incredible teaching methods as we have seen great improvements in Priyankas results. Morium has extraordinary organisational skills and has outstanding dedication to her students. She is able to coordinate a variety of teaching methods according to students needs. She always retains a positive working attitude which allows her to maintain the students focus in class. Priyanka was placed in a small group class under Morium and each individual student was given a highly sufficient amount of attention and assistance. Morium made sure that each student understood the topics that were taught and gave extra attention to students who struggled to grasp different concepts. She set up a reward system to motivate students to work harder and achieve better results. In addition, Morium always made sure to keep in touch with me in regards to Priyankas progress and was prompt in responding and discussing a variety of ways to increase her marks. She provided a personalised study timetable for Priyanka to follow for all of her subjects which helped to further her academic progress. I am very impressed and thankful for Moriums assistance in tutoring my daughter. Her attention to detail and knowledge of materials have greatly benefited my daughter. I highly recommend Academis to anyone who needs support for their childs education. - Farzana Joarder, Parent of a year 12 WACE Graduate For more testimonials, visit: http://www.academis.com.au/testimonials

16.01.2022 Tip of the Week - #2 Match A Scent To Each Of Your Subjects And They Will Reward You. Having mind blanks and feeling overly anxious during important tests and exams is unfortunately commonplace. There is a rather creative remedy to this.... Our sense of smell is the strongest of our 5 senses which is tied to memory and mood. Indeed, smelling beautiful scents will not only make study more exciting, but will help you focus, concentrate and most importantly recall all those important details when you need them. With each inhalation of fragrance, thousands of olfactory nerves in the nostrils send a myriad of messages to the brain. In turn, neurotransmitters are released, each with distinctive effects on the body. In this way, essential oils can dramatically affect physical and mental well-being, including the ability to remember, focus and relax. We suggest you make the following investment: Purchase a unique essential oil for each of your ATAR subjects. The most popular essential oils are as follows: Rosemary helps you to focus, memorise and reduce exhaustion. This one is perfect for subjects which are very information intensive e.g. Economics, Biology, English and History Citrus Oils such as Lemon or Mandarin help you relax and will make you a more accurate thinker a.k.a making less careless errors you may want to match this oil to your study of a Maths subject. Peppermint this one will give you a boost of energy and help you think clearly. Use this for the subjects that involve understanding challenging concepts e.g. Physics Jasmine This oil has a lovely calming effect due to its unique scent. It is also used as an anti-depressant so we suggest matching this one to the subject you feel least confident about and try to avoid studying e.g. Chemistry Ylang Ylang or Lavender because these scents are just beautiful, relaxing and will help to sedate your stress and anxiety. These oils can be purchased from popular stores such as Priceline or Dusk. Once you have a scent for each of your subjects, you need to do the following: Before studying for a particular subject, take a few moments to massage the allocated oil for that subject onto the back of your neck and shoulders. Use an oil diffuser on your desk, or mist the air with the oil while you study and inhale deeply. When you're getting ready for school - especially on the day of the exam - place a cotton ball or tissue paper with three drops of that subjects oil. This will help you to relax and smelling the scent throughout that particular exam will arouse your sense of smell and help you to recall all the information you ever learnt while studying and smelling this scent. So happy studying! Were sure you smell lovely.

15.01.2022 Tip of the Week - #4 HOW TO STUDY MONDAY-THURSDAY? (As Fridays are Freedays) Complete all homework. This should be your first priority.... Reading and highlighting the class notes/ worksheets Reading and highlighting corresponding textbook chapters Internet research for some additional information 1. Make a perfect detailed set of notes which combines information from all 3 resources 2. Make a summary 3. Make a summary of a summary Spend 30 minutes... Practising some questions

02.01.2022 PRACTICE EXAMS Year 11 and 12 Maths Methods and Maths Applications School exams are infamous for being 'too hard' with questions 'never seen before'. They can be worth as much as 40% of a student's final grade and should not be taken lightly!... Academis is offering year 11 or 12 students enrolled in either Maths Methods or Maths Applications the opportunity to comprehensively prepare for their upcoming Semester 1 exams. Students will get to sit 3 maths exams under simulated exam conditions, over the course of 3 consecutive weeks leading up to their school exams in May/June. These exams have been carefully drafted by experienced Maths teachers and Academics, to ensure that students are assessed on all aspects of the course. The exams are similar in content and difficulty to what students can expect in their own school exams. Sitting the 3 Academis exams essentially takes out the 'surprise element' of the school exam that each student will ultimately sit. When a student sits the 'real exam' on the fourth round, they can expect improved performance and significantly better results. Compare this to the usual scenario of a student who goes straight from studying at home to sitting the school exam, with little or no practice of maths questions under exam conditions. The last date for enrolments is May 10th, 2016. Exam Dates: Exam 1: May 14 Exam 2: May 21 Exam 3: May 28 If a student cannot attend a particular date/dates, alternative arrangements may be possible. Venue: TBA, but close to CBD. Fee structure: $99 for 1 exam $149 for 2 exams $169 for 3 exams Student benefits: o Gain familiarity with exam style questions o Determine strengths and weaknesses o Grow confidence and reduce exam anxiety o Receive personalised feedback for each exam To find out more, visit www.academis.com.au or email: [email protected]

02.01.2022 Former ACADEMIS student and now Tutor, Emily Morgan, who ranked amongst the top 0.5% of English students in her WACE exams reveals her top 3 tips for studying English: 1. Be Exposed English requires you to go outside of the text youre looking at. What markers are looking for is some personal insight, rather than a regurgitation of themes and ideas. Read or watch the news even magazine articles count. The more you know and think about your surroundings the more you will h...ave to write about. Suppose youre given a text of a shoe advertisement, the caption might read, cutting edge, quick fury. I am well read so I might introduce my observations into my writing The typography presented in sleek silver writing appears to have bevels in the design, emulating some metal like steel or silver. Assumptions can be made about the marketing intentions behind this. Strong metallic surfaces are usually used in designs for men to suggest that the quality of the metals being heavy and brutal align with their strength and manliness. This may seem obvious, but its important to supply that youve recognised it before. For instance, you might have watched a sports show on tv the other week that used this metal-like wording in their title show them that you recognise it! Tie in your viewing experience to the text by making the comparison to show that youre actively thinking about the topic. 2. BURST write! BURST writing is a form of writing practise that quickens your brain. It removes the pressure of what/why you might have to write about, but keeps a timer on your thoughts. This is when you clear the desktop, grab a blank page and pen and set the timer to 15 minutes. This helps you to write freely and swiftly, but under timed conditions. In year 12, I tried to get in 15 minutes of burst writing a day. Some of the time you can choose to argue a point, or express some thoughts you have about a topic learnt. Other times you can use your 15 minutes to practice writing an opening paragraph for an upcoming essay or speech. The beauty of this strategy is that it lessens your attachment to her writing. Writing in regular bursts brings the sternness out of the precious page and into your head training you to filter through ideas and commit yourself under time pressure. 3. Plan to yourself Dont be afraid to make your exercise book look like a journal. Feel free to write notes to yourself about ideas or information that you are given in English class. This way, you can refer back to them and have your thoughts properly answered for.

01.01.2022 Semester 1 Exams are just around the corner Here are some exam tips from Georgia Salmon ACADEMIS tutor and St Hildas Anglican School for Girls graduate: #1: DO NOT PANIC!... If you are stressed out, work out a way to distress and go back to work with infinitely more productivity! #2: Work out which concepts, even the very basic ones you struggle to conceptualise; then try to find different ways to look at it until you find one that clicks. #3: Make mind maps, colour code, make acronyms! Have fun with it until you find a method that really works for you. To find out more info, visit: www.academis.com.au

01.01.2022 What does a pineapple have to do with math? Start by looking at the pineapple and you might notice there are spiral patterns running in both directions around it. 01.01.2022 Thank you Juwairyah Haque for writing Academis a testimonial. Your thoughts are very important to us. Testimonials inspire us to work harder and better for our students every day. TESTIMONIAL: Id definitely recommend Academis for anyone. My scores for Maths Methods in year 11 were very poor and did not seem to be improving, leading me to make the excellent choice to seek a tutor in Academis instead of giving up and dropping the subject. My tutor for the course, Morium, was... excellent in her teaching methods, of which were clear and easy to understand as she incorporated many different tactics to approach a wide range of problems. All lessons have been well structured by my tutor, allowing me to achieve the most within the time period, whilst always providing well needed revision to ensure a complete understanding of all components of the course. Each lesson I have been provided with extra material such as homework of a high level to ensure practice throughout the week and weekly tests that have greatly improved my time management skills and my ability to attain higher results under pressure. Every class has been enjoyable and stress free, working alongside like-minded students in group sessions, of whom have also assisted me with problems I did not understand and have supported me in my studies and ambitions. Not only has my tutor improved my grades, but she has also provided great tips and advice on study, stress, work management, inspiration and motivation. Additionally I have made considerable improvement in all areas of the Maths Methods course, from applications of calculus to different types of probability. All work done correlated with the schools curriculum and provided a great extra help, boosting not only my grades but also my confidence in my studies and abilities, leading to a very pleasing result in my maths WACE exam and an ATAR of 95. Academis has given me the opportunity to choose from a wide range of courses in all WA universities through assisting me to achieve results of a standard I had not expected of myself . - Juwairiyah Haque, year 12 WACE graduate For more information about our Tuition Programs, visit: www.academis.com.au
