24.01.2022 1 YEAR Of ACCELERATE This week I celebrated Accelerate Exercise Physiology hitting the one year milestone! What a year it’s been, i never imagined that a year later I can proudly say that i have continued to provide my services to our community through one of the hardest years most businesses have seen. It has been both challenging and rewarding to watch my idea come to light and grow into what it is today. I definitely couldn’t have done it without the help of family and ...friends supporting me and other small business owners who’s experience and knowledge helped fuel my own. It is so lovely to see how supportive and encouraging everyone has been including the community of small business owners are and I look forward to helping/ sharing with others in the future! Im excited to see where this goes and look forward to sharing my journey with you all, whilst also educating you on what an exercise physiologist can do for you! . . . #supportsmallbusiness #exercisephysiology #exercise #exercisephysiologists

04.01.2022 EXERCISE FOR BREAST CANCER Thanks to advances in breast cancer research, the five year survival rates for women have increased in the past 25 years from 76% to 91%. This high survival rate means that more women are living with the long term consequences of their breast cancer diagnosis and treatment effects. (National Breast Cancer Foundation) The physical and psychological effects from cancer treatment are extensive and vary depending on the treatment approach. These side... effects can last a short period of time, or persist and appear later long after cancer treatment has ended. These side effects may include: Lymphedema Pain (Acute or Chronic) Insomnia Cancer Related Fatigue Increased risk of heart disease Depression Reduced range of movement Sarcopenia (decreased muscle mass) Bone loss Pelvic Floor Issues Increased incidence of falls due to peripheral neuropathy and de-conditioning Reduced quality of life Exercise is becoming recognised as an integral part of the treatment process because of invaluable research in this area! Exercise has been found in many clinical studies to have a positive effect on all of these side effects listed above. The type of exercise benefits vary with each modality however overall, exercise plays a positive role in reducing cancer risk, decreasing treatment side effects, speeding recovery after diagnosis and enhancing survival rates. During the month of October I will be delving into the role and importance of exercise for individuals at every stage of cancer treatment, starting from diagnosis all the way through to survivorship and post treatment. Stay tuned! Sonya . . . #cancer #breastcancerawareness #breastcancer #exercise #exercisephysiology #exerciseismedicine #exerciserehab
