25.01.2022 Are you currently living with family, in an aged care facility or a home that doesnt suit your mobility needs? Eligible NDIS recipients can partner with a Specialist Disability Accommodation provider, like AHA, to create a custom home and live more freely. To qualify, participants need to be assessed and have a report prepared using letters from doctors, careers, support workers and family. ... It can seem overwhelming at first, but the team here at AHA are here for you every step of the way. Reach out via email to [email protected] to get the ball rolling.
25.01.2022 NDIS participants deemed eligible to receive Specialist Disability Accommodation support may find added benefits in using an SDA provider to find their new home, instead of opting to become a self-provider. Going through an SDA provider, like the team here at Accessible Homes Australia, means participants: Avoid the risks associated with buying a home, designing a compliant dwelling, and managing construction. All you have to do is move in!... Aren't responsible for maintaining the SDA Dwelling Compliance and don't need to worry about audits and inspections. Can access more efficient care services, like AHA's SDA locations which include onsite Supported Independent Living (SIL) or Onsite Overnight Assistance (‘OOA’). Reach out to our team to find out more - [email protected].

24.01.2022 Accessible Homes Australia is celebrating the official launch of our East Palm Beach Specialist Disability Accommodation project on the Gold Coast, alongside our preferred disability services partner MS Queensland. Located on 23rd Avenue in Palm Beach, AHAs East Palm Beach project will provide seven SDA apartments for occupation from July 2021, offering independent living to NDIS participants requiring a high level of physical support. The Hon Stuart Robert MP, Minister for ...the National Disability Insurance Scheme, visited the East Palm Beach site for the official sod-turning, and says the project is everything we could want in Specialist Disability Accommodation. We dont just want to build houses. We actually want to build the capacity for people with disability to live within the community and thats what this is, says Mr Robert.
23.01.2022 This week the federal Government has announced changes to the NDIS Rules which finally give participants of the Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) scheme the choice of living with non-participants in their SDA homes. Accessible Homes Australias (AHAs) Founder, Perry Cross AM, was part of a group, which also included the SDA Alliance, that strongly encouraged this change. It means people with high supported living needs or extreme functional impairment can now live in... the same SDA home with their partner, parent or siblings. Perry and AHA applaud the NDIA and Minister Hon. Stuart Robert MP for these important changes which give people with disabilities more choice and control over their living situation.

20.01.2022 "Housing and accommodation has always been a huge obstacle for me. Because even when you travel, you can never find a hotel to stay in. But in the whole housing sector of Australia, permanent housing, there is nothing. There is no set up for that. Until SDA." Perry Cross AM, Accessible Homes Australia founder and CEO, and C2 ventilated quadriplegic, takes us through his journey of navigating the Specialist Disability Accommodation scheme to find independence and a home to call his own.

10.01.2022 Independent living is all about smart design. As Specialist Disability Accommodation providers, Accessible Homes Australia can build or retrofit homes that are wheelchair-friendly. We do this by adjusting walls, floors and fittings to allow for easy movement between the living, dining and bedrooms. AHA homes dont have ledges or gaps in the flooring, meaning travel between rooms (and onto balconies with sweeping ocean views!) is seamless. While a custom-made kitchen with hig...h benchtops and easy-to-reach appliances makes meal preparation that much easier. What is on your independent home wish-list?

08.01.2022 AHA Founding Director and CEO Perry Cross was today appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to people living with a spinal cord injury. In his typically humble way, Perry thanked others for helping him get to where he is today. "I am enabled by the people around me to achieve what I have, its important to recognise them too," he said.... After a rugby union tackle left him a C2 ventilated quadriplegic in 1994, Perry has dedicated much of his life to finding a cure for paralysis - establishing the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation and taking on the role of global ambassador for spinal cord repair research and motivational speaker. Perrys latest venture, AHA, is borne from that same sense of responsibility to help others; this time, in finding freedom and independence through accessible housing. Perry told the Gold Coast Bulletin he was grateful he lived in a country that allowed someone with a disability to go out and live a fruitful life. Congratulations Perry on your well-deserved recognition.
