13.01.2022 Lev’s words: Mental ill-health is not a choice and believing it is a choice reinforces the existing mental health stigma. Just because it is primarily based in the human mind, it does not mean it’s something we have control over. Let’s flip it to gain perspective. Did you experience a heart attack? Well, it's your fault that the blood vessels to your heart are blocked. Did you break your leg? Well, it's your fault that your bones aren't strong enough to handle the force of ...impact that caused the breakage. I probably sound ignorant saying that and that's because it makes no logical sense. Yet, mental ill-health is invalidated and blamed on the individual as the cause, even though no one chooses to have depression or anxiety, just like no one chooses to have a heart attack. -- We hope you have taken in Trang’s story and experience well. After reading Lev’’s series on mental health i.e disabilities that are hidden, complex and complex to put into a word... What do you feel you need most when trying to find or get good and paid work/employment? #disabilityequality #LGBTIQAcommunity #youthmentalhealth #accessiblefuture #covid19campaign
