25.01.2022 The disaster that has occurred in New Zealand on White Island has resulted in an urgent need for skin to help treat burns. Australian Tissue Banks immediately r...esponded to the call for assistance on Tuesday and provided New Zealand hospitals with tissue for skin grafts. At this stage, Australia still has a sufficient supply of skin available for those patients who are being brought home for treatment. This is a reminder of the importance of organ and tissue donation and the opportunity to help others when you die. If you want to be a donor, make sure you tell your family and register at www.donatelife.gov.au.

19.01.2022 We would like to wish Glenis a Happy 50th Kidneyversary today! Diagnosed at a young age, Glenis knew that dialysis and a transplant would be in her future. In... her early thirties, her kidneys declined to a point where she needed to start dialysis. A short five months later, as she was leaving her treating hospital, she was asked to prep for a kidney transplant. Glenis regarded her transplant as a special gift that required all her care and attention, keeping herself well and healthy for herself and her family. Right at the very beginning, I thought if I ever got a kidney transplant Id look after it, and Ive kept to my promise.

18.01.2022 Have you had a kidney transplant? A medication you may be taking called, Prograf XL (tacrolimus prolonged-release, once-daily capsules) is being discontinued an...d replaced with Advagraf XL (tacrolimus prolonged-release capsules). The reason for the change is to help reduce the possibility of medication error between the once-a-day Prograf XL and the twice-a-day Prograf. Both Advagraf XL and Prograf XL are identical, except for the brand name and packaging. However, if you have any concerns, you should consult your doctor. Once you have started taking Advagraf XL you will also need to inform other members of your healthcare team that you are now taking Advagraf XL. Around 1,40...0 Australians are currently wait-listed for a transplant. A further 11,000 are on dialysis, many of whom would benefit from a kidney transplant. We hope that the donor registry will continue to grow so more people can have a life-changing transplant. Register at: https://donatelife.gov.au/register-donor-today
