25.01.2022 COMET NEOWISE IN WA SKIES WA will have a rare opportunity to spot a comet on Sunday, when comet Neowise appears in southern skies. Matt Woods from the Per...th Observatory says the best time to spot Neowise will be on Sunday at 6.30pm. Neowise will be low in the sky and you will need good views to low north-west horizon. Regional WA can expect prime viewing due to the lack of light pollution. It may be visible to the naked eye but Matt suggests bringing out your camera and tripod if you have one. "It will be really interesting to see if its as good here as it is in the northern hemisphere," he said. "We only get a few naked eye comets during the decade so this is the first one of the 2020s." Maybe thats a good thing. "Traditionally comets have been the bringers of doom, so its just a bit convenient that this has turned up in the inner solar system and we have got COVID-19." : Modes Rodriguez/Flickr

21.01.2022 no. 4- Meteor showers in the Sky November 2020. Clear skies and no moon here will enhance your experience :) Leonids: The meteor shower gets its name from the constellation Leo the Lion, as the meteors will be coming from the stars that make up the lion's mane. But you don't need to look in the direction of the constellation, because the meteors will appear all across the sky. The bright meteors can also be colourful, and they're fast, moving at 70 kilometres per second - am...ong the fastest meteors. Fireballs and "earthgrazer" meteors are also a hallmark of the Leonid shower. Fireballs are brighter and larger and can last longer than the average meteor, while earthgrazers appear close to the horizon with long, colorful tails. 19.01.2022 **Sprinkles, sprinkles everywhere - 24 November 2020.. It's sparkly, it's fun, it's colourful and surprise, surpriseit's delicious. A little sprinkle will be waiting for you when your arrive in our park :) ** Who doesn't love Fairy Bread? It's a magical, whimsical, simple, yet absolute fantasy food and adored by all Australians. Did you realise that the 24 November, every year, is Fairy Bread Day? It's a day to make Fairy Bread for breakfast, lunch, d...inner, as an in-between snack or just because. Participate in Australia's very own invention Rainbow Food, Fairy Bread - a day to put all your worries away and fill your life with colour! Although the name, Fairy Bread, gives it an air of intricate, mystical magic, Fairy Bread is actually, quite simplistically, a three ingredient treat: a slice of bread spread generously with butter and covered in rainbow sprinkles. The story goes that Fairy Bread was inspired by a Robert Louis Stevenson poem:- 'COME up here, O dusty feet! Here is fairy bread to eat. Here in my retiring room, Children, you may dine On the golden smell of broom And the shade of pine; And when you have eaten well, Fairy stories hear and tell.'

17.01.2022 Hello, pictured is George Cowcill and the trailer he used as his home while prospecting. In 1939 Cowcill discovered nickel in Kambalda not far from Norseman, though it wasnt until the 1950s when samples were tested that the mineral was correctly identified. Whilst it may be rare to discover new super minerals, guaranteed time spent in our Gemfields is a great location to personally fossick in the natural bushland. Originally an area donated to this region available for visi...tors to go searching for gemstones. You will typically find agate, an opaque looking type of rock found primarily in grey, white and green hues in the area. Generous folk often leave tokens of their findings in our park grounds for good-luck! Our fossicking park guests leave no stone or earth up-turned as they hunt, seek and ferret out. Here are some tips: Pour some of the dirt from the bucket into a special double sieve so you can shake the excess dust out; Put the sieve into the dunking contraption called a Willoughby. Spend some time washing the dirt and mud off your rocks; Take your sieve full of rocks to the table and flip it over like a pancake; If you are new to this area it is a good idea to see everything at once from a high vantage point above the town. With panoramic 360 degree views, Beacon Hill Lookout is the ideal place to view the scene with a direction dial pointing into the distance towards surrounding landmarks. Information boards are on display exploring early settler Norseman mining history. Start Planning Stop Dreaming Start Fossicking :)

12.01.2022 Kids Christmas Party with Santa BBQ at Marks Park Saturday 5th December 2020 10am - 12pm Interestingly:... Boxing Day actually began in the Middle Ages in the UK, as this was the day that churches opened their collection boxes, from which they would distribute money to the poor. By the early 20th Century, Santa was already commonly being depicted as a fat, jolly, red-suited man with a long beard. A greeting card drawn by Louis Prang in 1885 shows a Santa who is practically identical to the one we know today. See more

06.01.2022 GOLDFIELDS TOWNS NORSEMAN The history of Norseman and Dundas dates to 1840 with the exploration of the south coast of Western Australia by Edward John Eyre, a...nd the establishment in 1864 of a sheep station in Esperance by the Dempster brothers from Northam. In 1871 John Forrest crossed from Western Australia into South Australia, finding good pastures lands which led to the pioneering of Mundrabilla, Balladonia and Fraser Range sheep stations. And between 1876 and 1878 the construction of the Overland telegraph {coastal] from Albany to Adelaide was complete and WA was linked to the rest of the world. In 1894, Lawrence Sinclair, his brother George and John Allsop were prospecting 4 miles north of Dundas, along with three others [named Ramsay, Talbot and Goodliffe], when they discovered a rich reef. Laurie Sinclair’s family had emigrated from Shetland Islands in January, and he was proud to call himself a Norseman; he had even named his horse Norse-Man. The story as commonly told, recounts how Laurie Sinclairs’ horse uncovered with its hooves a very rich specimen of gold bearing ore. When the claim was registered, it was named Norseman Find in honour of the horse, Following the discovery of the Norseman reef, Dundas thrived, and Norseman struggled at first but by January 1895 it had more than 200 miners working the fields. A town site was requested by the locals, lots were surveyed in April of that year, and the town site was gazetted in May. Although there were various suggestions made for the name of the new town, existing common usage of Norseman was sufficient to persuade the Minister for Lands to select the name. Between 1895 and 1901, a post office, banks, doctor, courthouse, stores and churches were established and, in 1899 Cobb & Co, mail coaches started delivering mail to Norseman. In 1935, Western Mining Corporation came to Norseman and invested significantly in its infrastructure, resulting in new bitumen roads, electricity and an extension of the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme to the town.[4] The first newspaper for the area was printed also in 1895, followed in January 1896 by the first issue of the Norseman Pioneer. Norseman today has a substantial shopping area, Junior High School, two hotels and supporting sporting facilities. Once it was the second-richest goldfield in Western Australia, next to the Golden Mile of Kalgoorlie. . As of 2006, it had been in operation for more than 65 years, producing in excess of 5.5 million ounces of gold in that time. Black and white image ----Norseman 1904
06.01.2022 no. 5. The Geminids December 2020. Make a Wish! :) Keeping the best until last, the Geminids always put on a spectacular display. Reaching ZHRs (Zenith Hourly Rate s) of up to 150 meteors per hour, this is one not to miss. ... Radiating out from near the bright stars Castor and Pollux in the constellation Gemini the Twins, they often produce bright, medium-speed meteors. Best seen after midnight until dawn and with New Moon on the 15th and the peak expected on the 14th, it should be a fantastic night of stargazing.
