21.01.2022 At first sight the least likely place in the world to find gold is under the moonscape of a dry salt-lake. But in outback Western Australia some salt flats are hiding a fortune. Lake Lefroy is a large ephemeral salt lake in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. It is north of Lake Cowan and approximately 55 kilometres south of Boulder. ... The town of Kambalda is on the northern shore and the hamlet of Widgiemooltha near the southern edge. See more

20.01.2022 Eastern Goldfields Historical Society inc. In June 1893, two Irish prospectors chasing rumours of a gold find at Mt Yuille pitched camp near a low hill about 40km north-east of Coolgardie. Paddy Hannan and Thomas Flanagan were still 25km from their planned destination, but they liked the look of this new country and decided to do a bit of prospecting. Read the fascinating Timeline, here is a glimpse!... 1863 Early explorer Henry Lefroy leads an expedition through the site where Coolgardie stands today. Lake Lefroy, near Kambalda, was later named after him. 1864 Explorer/surveyor Charles Hunt makes four separate trips into the Hampton Plains, leaving strategically-placed watering points along the track. These greatly assist prospectors and explorers travelling into the area now known as the Eastern Goldfields. 1917 The Trans Continental Railway links WA's Eastern Goldfields to the Eastern States when the final rail dog is driven into the line at Kalgoorlie. 1914 The entire Eastern Goldfields region is affected as men leave the mines and other industries to serve in World War I. https://www.facebook.com/kalgoorliehistory/videos/2237523979849606/ https://kalgoorliehistory.org.au/ See more
