17.01.2022 Always good to Check the most common mistakes to make sure youre not making them

17.01.2022 Buy now pay later options are the preferred method of credit for those under the age 30. It sounds great - doesn't it? I can buy what l want, take it home right now and pay it off in four equal instalments. What could possibly go wrong? It's not like you have the huge interest costs associated with credit cards so it's better - right? If you manage your money, as 80% of users of the buy now pay later service do, then nothing. Think of the positives:... * Regular instalments to spread the cost * 0% interest / interest free * You can take the items home now * Doesn't impact your credit rating If you are that 20% of users who miss repayments it can get you into more trouble than it's worth. The hidden costs for not paying on time, missing repayments, lack of regulation and limited recourse as this service is not regulated might be worse than having a credit card. Buy now pay later services don't have the same level of scrutiny when apply for a credit card. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Aside from the individual user who else is impacted by costs or pitfalls of this system? The retailers using these services! This is not a merchant / credit card system so they are not able to on bill the costs associated like they can for merchant services. The cost of these services needs to be built into the cost of the products they are selling or the retailer is reducing their profitability. For small businesses reducing their profit margins could be the difference between paying their workers more or increasing their stock range. Whilst building the cost into their selling price could mean they are not as competitive compared to others. Definitely food for thought and l haven't even scratch the service of explaining the pros and cons. The linked article is a little doom and gloom but certainly highlights what the 20% of users of the buy now pay later service are experiencing. https://www.afr.com//one-in-five-buy-now-pay-later-users-a

17.01.2022 Time is running out for those not registered with a tax agent (or those who will not be granted an extension) to lodge their income tax return.

17.01.2022 Trust deed issues - there is a change to financial reports under AAS guidelines which will impact new trust deeds entered into or changed after 1st July 2021. New SMSFs that are set up after 1 July 2021 and wish to prepare SPFS will need to ensure they dont have a clause in their trust deeds that require their financial statements be prepared in accordance with the AAS. Similarly, existing SMSFs that intend to change their trust deed after 1 July 2021 should remove such a clause if they wish to continue preparing SPFS, the Tax Office said.

15.01.2022 The ATO has advised that sole traders and eligible business participants of Jobkeeper will need to include the payment manually in the business income of their (company) tax returns. 12.01.2022 There has been an increase in scam calls, text messages and emails claiming to be from the ATO and demanding payment. If you have a registered tax agent, the ATO usually will contact them first, if there are any issues. The ATO is not going to demand you pay amounts owing in gift cards or bitcoin. They will work with you to set up a payment plan. If unsure hang up and call the ATO back on 13 28 61
