10.01.2022 No matter what your business structure - if you want to trade as anything other than Your Name then you must register a business name. ASIC have take this role over from the individual States - and it can all be easily managed from their online portal.

10.01.2022 Over the next few months this will be mandatory for ALL businesses employing staff. This includes individuals trading as a Company - even if its just them. The ATO are still ironing out how this will work for working directors who may just pay themselves when the business is cashed up, as up till now all the technical aspects of it assume regular perioding payroll runs.

05.01.2022 Here’s a summary of this afternoon’s proposed extension to the Stimulus Package: - As expected, the government has announced a $1,500 a fortnight job keeper payment. - It will last for six months (at least). - The payment will be made to businesses to keep employees on their payroll.... - There will be no higher payment for higher earners. - Businesses will have to prove they are paying it to their employees. This will be available to full and part time workers and casuals . Payments will commence from the beginning of May and will be backdated to today, and will be delivered through the ATO. The payments do not include super (this will remain an employer cost). .

04.01.2022 The cashflow boost for employers was announced by the Government in March as part of its economic stimulus package. Broadly, businesses with an aggregated annual turnover of less than $50 million and which withhold tax on employee salary and wages will receive a credit equal to 100% of the amount withheld up to a maximum of $50,000. Non-profit organisations, including charities, may also be eligible. Because the amount of the credit is based on the PAYG withholding on an Acti...vity Statement, this new measure may be open to exploitation, such as where a director who typically receives remuneration by way of dividend, instead changes their remuneration to salary and wages. To counter this, the explanatory memorandum to the legislation contains the following qualification: Eligibility is also subject to a specific integrity rule to defeat artificial or contrived arrangements to obtain the cash flow boost. " , , , . , 165-15 ( ) 1999 , ." This ensures that artificial arrangements undertaken solely to obtain the cash flow boost are ineffective. In terms of the type of arrangement that would attract attention, the ATO website has the following messaging: " ( ) : - , - . , ." .

They have allowed transitional payments for April payments so eligible employers will have between the time they enter the system and April 30 to pay eligible staff backpay for the two fortnights. This presupposes the employer has money in the bank to do this, as banks are still not coming to the party.... Yesterdays Chartered Accountants briefing compared this rollout to the GST implementation back in 2000. Then we had 18 months to prepare. This time weve had 18 days.
