18.01.2022 Secondly, once unemployment is on track for pre-pandemic levels (comfortably below 6%), there will be a shift from providing temporary and targeted support to stabilising gross and net debt as a share of the economy. The economic update and outlook was filled with numbers that only 9 months ago would’ve been considered highly improbable. The key economic points are: + The deficit will reach $213 billion this year, falling to $67 billion in 2024... + Net debt will peak at $966 billion in June 2024 (gross debt having exceeded $1 trillion by that point) + Australia’s economy contracted by 7% in the June quarter + Australia’s economy is forecast to fall by 3.75% this calendar year + Unemployment is forecast to peak at 8% in the December quarter Forecasts are for the economy to grow 4.25% next calendar year and unemployment to fall to 6.5% by the June 2022 quarter. In another unique twist for this Budget, the key underlying assumptions aren’t really economic ones. They are; there will be a mass COVID-19 vaccine by end of next year, all COVID-19 outbreaks will be manageable, State borders to re-open this year and no further worldwide economic shocks. Amidst the raft of spending and programs announced, the most relevant tax and super measures are featured here. https://accrumelb.com.au/federal-budget-2020-personal-supe/

07.01.2022 All contributions and investment earnings received by a Super Fund are classified as what they call ‘Preserved Benefits’. This means that they are not available for access until a ‘condition of release’ occurs. This is the trade-off of Superannuation you enjoy the favourable tax treatment of super during your life (15% tax on earnings and contributions) but you cannot access it until later on in life. But what are some of the ‘conditions of release’ that need to be met in order to access your super? https://accrumelb.com.au/releasing-money-super-tax/
