20.01.2022 How broke are we? I’ve got a bit of a shock the other day. You see, I tried to access a bank account that I had not used for some time only to be told that the account had been frozen. Now before you jump to conclusions the account wasn’t overdrawn. In fact there was some half decent dollars in there. On enquiry I was told that the government’s latest approach to dormant accounts is to transfer the balance to ASIC after two years of inactivity. The last time I checked accoun...ts were allowed to remain inactive for a lot longer. Of course, once ASIC is in control, it will take you up to two frustrating months before you can regain control of your money. So, that got me thinking just how broke is the government is if they are now resorting to raiding the (admittedly unloved) cash balances of citizen’s bank accounts. Be warned. Make sure you deposit or withdraw at least $1 from all your bank accounts regularly to make sure your hard earned money is kept out of the government’s big black fiscal hole. See more
