25.01.2022 Hi everyone I hope everyone had an amazing Sunday.. I need to update some information on our egg sizes. Under the Australian law we need to follow their current egg sizing guidelines. Our egg size classification is the following... MEDIUM 45-55 g LARGE/EXTRA LARGE. 55-65g we are able to keep it as one size JUMBO. 65-70g KINGS 70g plus We will give king eggs for home deliveries unless we sell out or if you don't want king and prefer jumbo. 19.01.2022 Did you know mondays !! Misconception of the yolk colouring A lot of people think that the colour of the yolk depicts the health of the bird or how fresh the egg is.. WRONG !!... The bright yellow is meant to mean a great egg but that’s because in the past chickens were mainly fed corn therefore the colouring of the yolk and that perception was past down generations.. REALITY: The colour of the yolk solely represents the birds diet and it’s feed.. A caged chicken living under the worst conditions, with the worst diet can have the most beautiful bright orange yolk.. and this is because the business will add food colouring to their food.. hence the colour.. In contrast... the happiest and healthiest chicken can have a light/pale yolk and would be because what it ate for a few days, let’s say bread, apples and potatoes In a few weeks I would perform a little experiment to proof this!! 10.01.2022 Had to go the vet today as scheduled last week; told lily that she had to wear a mask too and she was not impressed joking only for the photo!! I take them on a regular basis just to make sure they are well and nothing wrong.. the vet (really nice staff at koala park) said she was very healthy, had good muscles for laying and good to go !!

10.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW MONDAY !! Red spots in eggs When I didn’t know I would think that if there were blood spots in my egg it was because they were fertile.... But...All eggs, fertilized or not, contain tiny blood vessels that anchor the yolk inside the egg. ... Blood spots occur when one of those tiny blood vessels is broken during the laying process. The ruptured vessel forms a tiny speck or dot of blood with a dark red, brown, or even black hue. Sometimes, larger vessels burst, and this allows blood to pool throughout the entire egg. (I hope you don’t get an egg like this ) Which ever it is, these blood spots are a natural part of egg laying. In fact, blood spots indicate a particularly fresh egg as they age, the spot diffuses into the white and becomes undetectable. These are natural and safe to eat This is most commonly due to a hen being interrupted while laying her daily egg. Here, some of the chickens are really cheeky and the way they would be startled would be that a hen would be in her nesting box minding her business and another would come and want that particular nesting box and so would either go in there (2 hens in a tiny box) or kick the out of the box while she’s trying to lay an egg.. interruption amongst them could be a reason that would cause blood vessels bursting ..I’ve seen 3 girls in one small box wanting to lay a egg at the same time.. we have more than enough laying boxes for them but they are super picky and monkey see, monkey do Weather changes could be another Interruption, thunderstorms is a bad one as they get scared by the noise.. Blood spots are fairly common, and not cause for concern. Dust baths off coarse.. ... they dig a small pit in the ground and use the dirt to clean away the oils in their feathers.. If they have mites (after rainy periods) they must be able to access dry dirt pools as with these baths they eliminate/control mites They really enjoy to bath... I bought them kids shell pools and I fill them with natural soil; because my girls are sophisticated but their wild side kicks in and they much rather dig a hole in the ground My little cuties Have you seen chickens dust bath?
