20.01.2022 School Holidays are here!! This is a timely reminder to protect yourself and your kids from Electrical Dangers. This is best done through routine Electrical Safety Inspections of your electrical equipment as well as inspections of your RCDs and Smoke Alarms around your home!... RCDs save lives RCDs monitor the flow of electricity from the main switchboard and prevent electrocution by cutting the electricity supply if an imbalance in the current is detected. By installing at least two RCDs, the propertys circuits can be divided evenly. This ensures some light and power remain if one RCD operates and also minimises faulty operation from appliances which have low-level leakage current. All properties constructed from the year 2000 should already have two RCDs fitted. Number of RCDs The regulations require two RCDs be installed on the main switchboard. In some cases, to reduce the number of circuits affected by the operation of any one RCD, homeowners may consider having more than two RCDs fitted. Testing the RCD All RCDs have a test button which should be pressed every three months. Pushing the test button simulates an earth leakage fault and indicates whether or not the RCD is operating correctly. Electric clocks and timers will require resetting after each test. 10.01.2022 FOUND recently during an electrical audit.... Vermin taking up residence in a fluro light! While the vermin might think that a light fitting makes a wonderful home.... we do not! You can see from these photos the damage caused. Good job the property owners asked Acelect to initiate the annual electrical audit, or it may not have been found in time before a serious electrical incident occurred. Noting visual debris within an external Weather proof fitting cover, raised the a...larm to inspect further as weatherproof fittings should not allow water within, let alone vermin. To rectify, owners approved to replace damaged sections of cable and adequately seal all external fittings. Annual electrical audit, RCD and Hard wired smoke alarm checks are so important! 10.01.2022 We recently attended a property and found an RCD that has been slowly smouldering away due to a hot joint, that could have been found by a simple tension check. Just a hint....It shouldnt look like this! We replaced the RCD culprit and now the property is safe from any potentially related electrical hazards.
