22.01.2022 *** For the Central Tablelands for Friday evening into Saturday morning *** Across the Central Tablelands, there is a high chance of showers, tending to snow fo...r areas above 800m on Friday evening. For the Blue Mountains specifically, there is an 80% chance of showers on Friday which may fall as snow (30% chance) into the evening. Before the cold change moves through, the temperature will reach 15 in Katoomba, before it drops to 2 into the evening. However, this cold front will have strong westerly winds which will make the Friday evening feel more like -7 degrees. We expect the strong winds will continue into Saturday. Road Conditions: The weather may have an affect on road conditions west of the Blue Mountains to Bathurst and Oberon. For the latest on road conditions across NSW, go to livetraffic.com. SES volunteers and other supporting emergency services will remain on a heightened alert in case the snow and wind affects the Blue Mountains community. If you need assistance during storms, contact the NSW SES on 132500 at anytime.

02.01.2022 NSW SES volunteers in the Blue Mountains are currently working on the 33 calls for assistance we have received for storm damage from damaging winds overnight, m...ainly in the Lower Blue Mountains area. In one call, a large tree completely crushed the rear of a house in Glenbrook. At the time there was no one home. Winds peaked at 104 kph yesterday afternoon as the cold front passed the region dropping the apparent temperature down to minus 10.4 degrees. As snow started to fall over night, SES teams remained on standby incase the snow settled which can cause traffic issues. Whilst a small amount of snow was settling in the Mt Victoria and Blackheath area by 1am, there was no concerns to affect roads. At 5.30am, our teams were called to assist the Police for the search for a missing person in Katoomba (see separate post). So at this time, we have a number of teams in storm response and teams attending a land search. The winds will continue strong throughout Saturday, easing into Sunday. There should not be any rain. If you require assistance from the SES, call us on 132500 at anytime.
