25.01.2022 The explosion at the port of Beirut has killed more than 150 people, injured thousands, and damaged the homes of more than 300,000 people. ACFID's members and their local partners are working with local authorities and communities to provide shelter, food, water, and emergency supplies to families impacted by the explosion. They are supporting local healthcare efforts and supporting the reunification of families separated by this disaster.... You can be assured that your support to any member listed below will meet identified needs on the ground. The standards by which ACFID's members make appeals for donations for crises are set by ACFID’s Code of Conduct. https://acfid.asn.au/con/beirut-explosion-emergency-appeals #Beirut #BeirutExplosion #BeirutInOurHearts Lebanese Muslim Association Arab Council Australia Lebanese in Sydney The Lebanese Australian

25.01.2022 You have 6 days left to nominate any of your significant donors for the International Philanthropy Award new closing date 9 September. This award celebrates partnerships between philanthropy and for-purpose organisations, and honours those who are working to create lasting, positive change. It is for grants allocated to Australian organisations operating overseas, that work towards achieving a better and more sustainable future for all through a global measurement framework... (e.g. the SDGs). The award recognises both the ‘funding’ organisation and the ‘doing’ organisation and many ACFID members will be the ‘doing’ organisation. This is a perfect opportunity to recognise your significant funders, by way of nominating them, or simply by letting them know of this opportunity. The International Philanthropy Award is part of the Australian Philanthropy Awards, and presented in partnership with the Australian International Development Network (AIDN) and sponsored by ACFID. Go online and place your nomination today: https://www.philanthropy.org.au//international-philanthro/. Note the original deadline of 28 August has been extended to 9 September.

24.01.2022 ACFID seeks a consultant with expertise in disability-inclusive development, to produce guidance for ACFID’s members as part of the Code of Conduct Committee’s focus area on Disability-Inclusive Development. Could this be you? The guidance will assist ACFID members and new applicants in understanding and developing their own organisational commitment to the inclusion of people with disabilities, that meets ACFID Code of Conduct requirements. This guidance should be adaptable ...and relevant for organisations of different sizes. Take a look at the consultancy requirements in the terms of reference: https://acfid.asn.au//site.a/files/TOR%20_%20DID_final.pdf If this is you, please get in touch! If you know if anyone that could be interested, please share with your networks. Applications for this consultancy are due 30 November, via [email protected].

23.01.2022 ODE’s evaluations have repeatedly confirmed that Australia’s Development Cooperation Program is a high impact, value-for-money foreign policy tool. How can the Government assure the public that it is spending taxpayer money effectively if we don’t have independent, robust verification?" ACFID's Director of Policy and Advocacy, Bridi Rice, discusses the closing of DFAT's Office of Development Effectiveness. https://www.smh.com.au//backwards-step-dfat-shut-down-offi

20.01.2022 Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, has committed to a "regional role" in supplying the COVID-19 vaccine to the Pacific and partners in South East Asia, and has indicated that Australia's development cooperation budget will be used to roll it out. ACFID's CEO, Marc Purcell, welcomed the news, but cautioned that the development cooperation program had "reached the end of repurposing", and "to do this effectively, new resources are required." 10.01.2022 Australia’s development assistance program has been re-geared to meet urgent COVID-19 needs. This is welcome, but not one new dollar was added to the overall aid budget. Surely this is inadequate for the task of investing in the region’s economic recovery a pre-eminent Australian national interest if ever there was one. 07.01.2022 I probably shouldn’t have a favourite ACFID Code Quality Principle, but I do. It’s QP 5 on Collaboration. It recognises that no one should go it alone in development and humanitarian work. Mutual respect, transparency and understanding are the cornerstones of all quality partnerships. Bridi Rice, Director of Policy & Advocacy at ACFID, launches the final Spotlight on the Code. Read her blog on collaboration and the critical role partnership plays for NGOs to achieve effective development and humanitarian outcomes: https://loom.ly/p-egqw4 #CodeSpotlight
