07.01.2022 Ben Howard has dreamt of being an entertainer since he was six years old. Over the past 13 years, he has taught himself to not only sing but to write songs and play the guitar. Some of the challenges Ben faced with his autism meant that pursuing long-term singing goals felt out of reach for him and his mum. In 2019 Ben applied to Achieve My Dream and with the Achieve My Dream program, Ben was able to attend professional singing lessons once a week for three months and started his journey to turn his dream of being an entertainer into reality. https://hubs.ly/H0tr1tF0

Crip camp - A Disability Revolution: The story of the ground breaking Camp Jened which welcomed people with disabilities when many mainstream summer camps did not, in an era when people with disabilities were sent away to institutions simply because of their disabilities. The Peanut Butter Falcon: The story follows th...e adventure of a young man who dreams of becoming a professional wrestler and attending the wrestling school run by his wrestling idol. He runs away from an assisted living facility and stows away on a small fishing boat. I am Sam: A fictional drama about a man who is living with an intellectual disability, who is fighting to keep custody of his daughter after they were abandoned by the mother. It’s an examination of the social prejudices and stereotypes against people with intellectual disabilities, and their abilities and rights as parents. The Fundamentals of Caring: The story follows a writer who suffering from writer’s block after a personal tragedy becomes a personal caregiver. He gets a job caring for Trevor, a young man who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. You’re Not You: At the height of her career, classical pianist Kate is diagnosed with ALS. When her husband begins to struggle with her care, Kate hires brash college student Bec to assist her. The pair form a fierce bond which brings adventure into Kate’s life and stability into Bec’s. The relationship between the two women is a strong example of how disability, while isolating, can bring the right people closer together.
