24.01.2022 Soon to land in Brisbane! Please comment below if you would like to reserve a pair! UPDATE: "We're selling them at $18.95, but because we're not meeting at the moment, we're including postage in our price."

23.01.2022 Well, the 5K beach run at GC50 that I very foolishly imagined would be easy was certainly not easy at all! While the temp was not as bad as it has been in recent days it was still warm. The breeze was cool but quite stiff and became a head wind for part of the run. The smoke haze was abysmal . It was a tough run - no nice flat, hard level ground. It was all soft and powdery or almost quicksand. It was all churned by the runners in front of us. Great lesson in keeping my fee...t on uncertain ground lol. The water washing over my shoes was quite pleasant at first - that sensation did not last as my shoes filled with wet and dry sand . I am proud to say I did it. I am especially grateful to Wendy Crompton for keeping me going and practically carrying me off the beach so that I could trot across the finish line that felt like it was a world away! I would also like to thank the couple that looked after Gem and Patsy for us. Congratulations to everyone that participated, no matter what distance, given the heat of this time of year and the awful air quality- you are all stars that shine brightly every time you get out there and get it done Image description: Wendy and I with the ocean behind us on a rare piece of nice sand.

15.01.2022 From Achilles International: "Achilles International Chapter members and volunteers, It's been an incredibly trying time these past few days and I wanted to let you all know that we are here for you. While most of us are remaining indoors in a safe environment, this means that many of our members are not able to do the thing they love the most... Run. ... While very few things can match the joy of running with a guide or a friend, it's important for our mental health to continue to get some sort of exercise during these long and somewhat tedious days. Stay Active! This page contains links to some videos with some great fitness exercises that can be done at home... Most of them are FREE and require either no equipment or just a Yoga Mat to get started. Thank you to Achilles NYC Guide Coach Raj of Run With Raj for providing this list to Achilles for free! We'll also be providing links that are geared specifically to the visually impaired community, so be sure to check your inbox and follow Achilles International on Facebook. If you follow us on Facebook, we'll be posting accessible workouts to try at home several days per week! They will include cardio, strength training, stretching and Yoga. A great way to stay fit from home! Join our Strava Page! After joining, post your workout. Even if you've just done 20 minutes of intense stretching -- post it to Strava! Let everyone know that you're keeping active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Use the Buddy System! If you are a volunteer or guide, we ask that you reach out and connect with the Achilles runners that you most often run with. They will appreciate hearing from you during this difficult time. Please offer up support, be a helpful listener and encourage the athletes you train with to keep active as often as possible. If you're an Achilles Athlete, please do the same. Your guide will be happy to hear from you and will want to know what you're doing to remain active. If you are an athlete or a guide and you don't have someone to connect with, let your Chapter Leaders know! They'll pair you up with someone so that you can keep tabs on each other and help each other through this tough time! For the time being, please kindly refrain from using Race Buddies and other Achilles social media forums and mailing lists to ask about meeting up for a run. When workouts resume, it will be okay to continue to post about asking to meet up for a run outside of workout times. Stay focused. Keep washing your hands. Looking forward to staying connected with all of you! To paraphrase the great Billy Davis... The Achilles Spirit Will Never be Broken... only barriers."

14.01.2022 Achilles Australia came second after Achilles Japan - congratulations to all participants and thank you to all that donated!

14.01.2022 Congratulations Henry!

13.01.2022 Congratulations Mary! "Mary wants people to know that just because you have a disability or some difficulty does not mean you have to give up on your dreams. You may have to adjust that dream, but you can still have it. She also wants people to know that people who have disabilities are still viable human beings who can contribute to society in so many ways. She hopes that her story raises awareness about PCD and other lung diseases and shows people they are not alone. @WomenOfTheMountain had the honor of meeting this incredible woman on Friday. I left that meeting so inspired. Mary eliminates excuses and shows us all what’s possible. A massive heartfelt thanks to the New York Road Runners and Achilles International who help athletes like Mary achieve their dreams. Please keep liking, sharing, following, and commenting. Go Mary Go!"

12.01.2022 [drumroll]... and the Medibank parkrun hero of January 2020 is: Our very own Achilles Brisbane president Barbara Clarke! CONGRATULATIONS BARBARA! "Barbara is inspirational. she is a blind lady who started walking with her guide. She now runs every week and has competed in many charity runs too. Blind and vision impaired runners/walkers face so many more challenges than sighted people. She has to rely on sighted people telling her obstacles ahead and that can be very scary. Sh...e inspires me to give it a go every day. She is kind, warm and willing to help others too become involved with park runs. She is a devoted park runner and I can think of anyone more deserving." Marie Carroll. Barbara has won a trip to a Sydney parkrun and has gone into the draw to win a trip to Bushy parkrun in London! Image below: Barbara wearing her yellow Achilles shirt and red hero cape next to her guide Wendy also in her Achilles shirt at South Bank parkrun today.

07.01.2022 Good morning! We’ve been selected to participate in Local Matters at Grill’d South Bank this November! Local Matters is the Grill’d community donation program that sees each Grill’d restaurant donate $500 back into the community every month. The donation is split between 3 local community groups $300 / $100 / $100.... HOW YOU CAN HELP? We’d love your support in receiving the highest $300 donation! Simply head to Grill’d South Bank during November for a burger and pop your Local Matters token in our jar. The group with the most tokens at the end of the month receives the largest donation. It’s a simple (and delicious) way to show your support! You’ll find us on a jar at Grill’d South Bank, 167 Grey St South Brisbane.

05.01.2022 "Dear Achilles International community, At Achilles International we put the safety and welfare of our athletes, volunteers, employees, and community first. The extraordinary circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic have impacted our ability to come together for fun, fitness and mutual support. We now must protect each other by maintaining a safe distance. To that end, we are working diligently to create a virtual home for our Achilles community to come together and maintain t...he special spirit and camaraderie we all thrive on and depend on. We will be in touch over the next several days with more information about where and how we can continue to work out together, and to encourage and support each other. We are a robust and compassionate community of achievers, and we prioritize being there for one another. It is the Achilles way. Stay healthy. Stay connected.
