07.01.2022 Here you go, your next VR....

05.01.2022 Here's a good news story: Achilles guide Joan completed the Motatapu Off Road Marathon in New Zealand on Sunday 15 March 2020. Here's her story. Congratulations Joan! We loved reading her story, hope you do too! The Motatapu Off Road Marathon (NZ) Sunday 15 March 2020 (just before things got crazy!) Leaving Wanaka at 5.30am we were taken by bus to the start. It was freezing when the bus dropped us off and despite having two thermal layers and a down jacket on, I was sh...ivering. A lovely event official saw me and told me to go and wait in her Ute which was wonderfully warm, and for this, I will be forever grateful. Starting at Motatapu Station near Lake Wanaka and finishing at historic Arrowtown the 42.2km run follows a route early Maori used for hunting. It is an off-road run/walk through the magnificent Motatapu, Soho and Glencoe Stations, which the owners open once a year for this event. The sun made several attempts to come out and it warmed up considerably after the start but luckily for us runners, it was perfect overcast running conditions all day. The route is exposed and traverses physically challenging back-country terrain with the first 28km going steadily uphill. As they say, what goes up, must come down and it does for the next 12km. The final 2km is made up of river crossings up to knee/thigh deep in icy cold and often fast flowing water so many river crossings, so much fun but this last 2km was very slow!! I crossed the finish line very happy after 6 hours and 27 minutes was given a medal and an event sports bottle with a sticker on it, which thankfully, as someone pointed out, meant that I had won a spot prize!!! Such a great adventure See more
