23.01.2022 SATURDAY 6TH FEBRUARY Mark 1:29-39 Jesus heals many. Jesus had such a fantastic healing ministry. Many people came to Him for healing and He healed them all and drove out many evil spirits. This made so many people flock to Jesus.... Jesus knew He could not heal on His own. He once said, I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by Himself. He can only do what He can see the Father doing because whatever the Father does the Son does (John 5:19). Therefore, Jesus had to spend so much time alone with the Father in prayer. Every morning when the disciples woke up, they saw that Jesus’ bed was empty. He was up in the hills alone with the Father praying with Him. This time spent in prayer gave Jesus the power to heal and go on destroying the devil’s work! This says to me that if we want to see Jesus healing people in our midst, we need to spend time alone with Him in prayer. Let us all make a New Year’s resolution to begin every day with prayer. If we make this a rule, we will find it hard at first and want to go back to bed, but if we persevere, we will find it easier to get up and pray. Even if it is only a few minutes, it will be a great help. If we begin the day praising the Lord, we will be more aware of His presence with us all the day. We will be ready to help other people get close to Jesus. We will make Jesus very happy. PRAYER: Father, we thank you that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and for ever; ever ready to be with us to heal and destroy Satan’s work. Help us begin the day with prayer so that we can be close to you all the day, through Jesus our Savoiour. Amen.
23.01.2022 THURSDAY 4th. FEBRUARY John 4:43-54 Faith is taking Jesus at His word This royal official at Cana in Galilee had tremendous faith in Jesus. Even though Jesus tested his faith, it did not waiver. He called out to Jesus, Sir, come now before my son dies. He so much wanted his son to live and really believed that Jesus could perform a miracle for him. When Jesus said, you may go, your son will live, he really believed what Jesus was saying. Imagine the joy in this offic...ial’s heart when he realized the fever left his son at the very moment Jesus told him his son would live! Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. Sometimes Jesus still speaks to people through the Holy Spirit to tell them they are healed, or He speaks to the person ministering the gift of healing. In January 1974 my wife, Wendy, attended the Christian Life Centre in Brisbane. During a healing service Derek Prince, a speaker from America, called out that Jesus had told him there was someone there who had had a spinal fusion operation. If that person came forward, Jesus would heal them. Wendy went forward and was completely healed of a condition which had caused her a lot of agony for two years. She believed Jesus had given His word to Derek. We do not have to wait for a specific word from the Lord. He has given us some fantastic general promises. Look at Mark 11:24 where He says, Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours. John gives us faith in Jesus when he says, this is the confidence we have in approaching God, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask we know that we have what we asked of Him (1John 5:14-15). PRAYER: Jesus, please give us the faith to believe your Word and your promises, so we may be confident that we will receive what we ask for in prayer. Amen.
13.01.2022 TUESDAY 2nd FEBRUARY Psalm 147:1-11 Keep praising the Lord. For many years I was a worrier. Anxiety plagued my life; it robbed me of much joy. 1973 was the turning point of my life. In that year I learnt how to really praise the Lord. I suppose I found it easy to praise Him because that was the year God made me sure of my salvation and filled me with His Holy Spirit. I entered a deeper personal relationship with God than ever before! As I praised the Lord and worshipped... Him, I found myself staying awfully close to God and always experiencing His presence. This was the cure for worry and anxiety that I had been longing for. It’s impossible to be afraid, worry and be anxious when you are in the presence of God. Job’s fears and worries continued because nothing could get rid of them until he came into the presence of the living God. Then they all evaporated like early morning fog (see Job 52:5-6). God is so good, so wonderful, so fantastic. It is so pleasant and fitting to praise Him. Praising Him keeps us close to Him. He is always ready to come close to us because He is everywhere, but we experience His presence when we praise Him. Psalm 22:3 KJV says that God is enthroned in the praises of His people! Our attitude towards God is important if we are to experience His presence. We need to be utterly dependent on Him. When we are humble and when we are broken-hearted, it is easier to get close to God. Pride and self reliance tend to repel us from God. We must be humble enough to admit we need His help. We must stop trying and start trusting! When we trust God and depend on Him, it really delights Him and makes Him happy. Then His unfailing love keeps on and on pouring into our hearts and things get better and better every day. PRAYER: Lord, I love you so much, I just want to keep on praising you. Help me to repent of self-reliance and pride and keep on depending on your unfailing love. The thought of you delighting in me makes me want to love you and praise you more, through Jesus our Saviour. Amen.
04.01.2022 FRIDAY 5th FEBRUARY 1 John 3:7-14 Jesus destroyed the Devil’s work. The devil works overtime to destroy our relationship with God. He knows that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23) and he wants us all to die. He encourages us to sin. The devil also knows that God is love and God wants us to love one another so he goes out of his way to make us hate each other. Because we have all inherited weak, sinful human natures, the devil has it easy. He does not have to try har...d to get us to sin. Jesus came to earth with one goal to destroy the works of the devil. This He did very effectively when He took our place and accepted the penalty that we deserve. When Jesus died and rose again, the devil’s work was destroyed. Jesus died to give us the gift of eternal life (Romans 6:23). When we repent of our sins and accept Jesus as Saviour and Lord, He comes to live in our hearts. There is a bit of God in each of us. He transforms our sinful human nature. The power Jesus released on the cross causes our sinful natures to die and we come alive in a new way. Jesus’ life in us makes us really come alive. Jesus in us and His power working in us makes us hate sin and really love everyone! Even though we are not free from the devil’s temptations and sometimes sin, we cannot live with sin. It makes us uncomfortable and soon we receive the forgiveness the Bible promises (see 1 John 1:9). With Jesus in us we cannot be happy when sin is in us. We cannot enjoy sinning anymore! If people hurt us, we can’t hate them for very long. Jesus in us makes us love them and forgive them. If we hate sin and love people, however badly they treat us, then we know we are born again with Jesus in us and that we have eternal life. PRAYER: Jesus, thank you so much for dying in my place on the cross, to take my sin away and destroy all the devil’s work. Stay in my heart as my Lord and Savoiour and give me all the power I need to hate sin and love everyone, even my enemies. Amen.
01.01.2022 WEDNESDAY 3rd FEBRUARY 1 Corinthians 9:16-23 I have become all things to all men. To become a friend of Jesus and remain His friend is the most important thing in every person’s life. The Bible makes us certain that only those who know Jesus and God the Father will share in eternal life. It is very important, then, that we help as many people as we can get to know Jesus and become His friend. In today’s reading Paul tells us the secret of his success in winning many conver...ts. It was by becoming all things to all men. He loved people so much because He knew God loved them. This compelled him not only to preach the Gospel to them, but also to share his life with them. He gave himself to them completely. He became their slaves. Paul always brought himself to the level of the people he was bringing to Jesus. He truly became their friends. God calls us all, who know Him, to influence others so they can become believers and his followers. The only way to begin is to make them our friends and do all we can for them. We should never make them feel inferior because we are believers, and they are not. We should spend time praying for them, asking God to draw them to Himself and show them how much they need Him. Then we can tell them the reason we are so happy and show them how Jesus can transform their lives. We must keep persevering because the absolute best thing we can do for all our friends is to lead them to Jesus. Won’t it be wonderful when we get to Heaven and people come up to us and say, Thank you for leading me to Jesus. Because of what you did for me I am here. PRAYER: Jesus, help us to make friends with all the people we meet. Help us to identify with them and do all we can for them. Draw them in and help us to use the right words to witness to them and lead them to accept you as Saviour and Lord. Amen.
