24.01.2022 22 July 2020 LFL200722 As Sharp As It is dangerous to use a blunt knife, especially in the kitchen when preparing food. A blunt knife could slip when you are using it and before you realise it, you have a bad cut on your hand. Often, we treat God’s Word like a blunt instrument. We may listen to it or read it but listening we do not actually hear and reading we do not actually comprehend. We do not allow the Word of God to affect our hearts, challenge our lives or change our m...inds. However, the writer of Hebrews said: Hebrews 4:12-16 12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable. Christ Is Our High Priest 14 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. 15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. The Word of God refers to the Scriptures (the Bible) but also to Jesus. In this passage we see that God Speaks to us through the Bible and it is so sharp that it can cut into our hearts, to address the issues that really matter. It can reveal everything to us if we allow it, and nothing is hidden from God. However, Jesus also understands us and our failings, having experienced life as a human and dying on the Cross for our sins. Having endured all things and yet not sinning, he is the perfect one to intercede and make atonement for us before God. That is why we can come before God through Jesus, even when the Word of God has cut into our lives and exposed our innermost parts before God. We can come boldly before God and find grace and mercy when we need it most. See more

24.01.2022 Beautiful Spring afternoon. Do not forget to set your clocks forward on Saturday night for Daylight Savings time! God bless you.

23.01.2022 29 July 2020 LFL200729 Look Up! A young child on his bicycle approached a narrow bridge and suddenly started to feel fearful, not sure that he could cycle over it safely. He looked down and his bicycle started to wobble. His mother, cycling along behind him called out, just look straight ahead! The boy raised his head and immediately straightened out. He crossed the bridge without any problems and continued his ride, with a smile on his face. So often in life, we see... potential problems ahead of us and the fears and worries fill our lives. We start scrutinising our lives and like the boy in the story, we look down, directly in front of us, only able to see our problems and our immediate steps. We get so caught up with what is in front of us that we lose sight of God and His plan for us. We steps start to wobble and we may lose our way. Often the best advice is to look ahead, to look up to God. As the writer of Psalms 121 proclaims: Psalm 121 1 I look up to the mountains does my help come from there? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth! 3 He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. 4 Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. 5 The LORD himself watches over you! The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade. 6 The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. 7 The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. 8 The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever. Therefore, Look up! Your Hope is in God alone. See more

22.01.2022 20 August 2020 LFL200820 The Sun always rises Most mornings, I miss watching the sunrise. I miss seeing the glorious beauty of the sun as it rises over the horizon, especially if it rises over the ocean. There is something glorious and majestic about sunrise, as it lifts your spirit and gives you hope of a new day. Each sunrise and new day remind me of God’s love for us. Even the writer of Lamentations, as he laments over the fall of Jerusalem, declared in Lamentations 3:22-2...6: 22 The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 24 The LORD is my portion, says my soul, therefore I will hope in him. 25 The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. 26 It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD. There are days when clouds or rain covers the sunrise or we wake up after it has risen, but the sun still rises at the appointed time. Even when we do not or cannot see the sunrise, we can be confident that it did. In the same way, we can have confidence that God is there for us each day, that His love never ceases and that even when we are unfaithful, He is faithful, for He cannot deny His nature. Therefore, take courage and have faith in God. Wait on God and hope in Him. He will never fail those who trust in Him.

04.01.2022 LFL200715 15 July 2020 Rainbows of Promise Genesis 9:12-17 New International Version (NIV) 12 And God said, This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me an...d you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth. 17 So God said to Noah, This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth. Last Sunday, Sydney witnessed some amazing rainbows after a brief but heavy rainstorm. Social media had countless posts of beautiful rainbows that reminds us of God’s promise to Noah. God told Noah that the rainbow was a sign to us and Himself of the Covenant that He made with all creation that He would never destroy the earth again with a flood. God was not obligated to make such a covenant or promise, and it was a covenant with no conditions placed on anyone else except God. Based on His mercy alone, God promised to never destroy all life on the earth by a flood again. This is the same merciful and gracious God that we can put our hope and trust in. God will judge the living and the dead, but He is also a God who keeps His promises and Covenants with His people. Just before Israel entered the Promised Land to claim their Inheritance as God promised, God said to them: Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV) 8 The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Therefore, those who put their Hope in Jesus can be confident that they follow a God who cares for them and will be with them forever. See more

02.01.2022 A New Robe LFL200814 14 August 2020 I love winter. I love it because I can wear jackets and jumpers etc and not have to worry that my shirt underneath is ironed or wrinkled! It does not matter as long as I do not have to remove the jumper or jacket! And besides covering up any wrinkles or stains, the jacket/jumper keeps me warm and comfortable. In the same way, God’s righteousness covers our sin so that we are clothed in His righteousness when we stand before Him. Isaiah 61:1...0-11 says: 10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 11 For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before all the nations. Jesus purchased our righteousness with His blood on the cross, so that we can come before God, not based on our own righteousness, but only with the righteousness of Jesus covering our sins. We are also reminded in Paul’s letter to the Romans to: 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. Therefore, put on the righteousness of Jesus and live for Him. PS the attached photo is for illustration purposes only and copied from the internet.
