19.01.2022 One would hope that Cllr Sundstrom will be making a declaration of non-percuniary interest since the primary reason he's advocating so fiercely to block the Wi...nney Bay walkway is due to the influence of Senator O'Neill, who's house overlooks Winney Bay and is opposed to the project. At the end of the day, this is really what it's all about - politics. 05.01.2022 COUNCIL CALLS CLIMATE EMERGENCY ! OK - Maybe now can we get back to local government issues. LIKE OUR LAKES AND WATERWAYS FOR STARTERS ???... Appreciate Council Climate Emergencies, and New Start allowances are important, high profile, Federal party politics. Lots of Councils have jumped on the political conga line, pushing their political party agenda. But is it time your LOCAL Council drops the Federal politics and gets back to LOCAL issues, that it has some direct core responsibilities. Maybe roads, rates rubbish. OR how about some focus on our LOST LAKES and WATERWAYS !! If your Clrs can call down on the Federal Government on Climate, and Newstart, then why cant they call on our State and Federal Governments to come together with the new Regional Council, and really get serious in trying to resolve our decaying Lakes and Waterways. It’s beyond Councils funding capabilities, and will take all the three tiers of Government to come together. Council does not even own the Lakes and foreshores. They are actually NSW Crown Lands assets. Council is reliant on State and Federal Grants, yet it is Council that cops the blame, for a NSW State owned asset. As a Clr I voted to buy a decent dredge, but even that was voted down in political paralysis on the issue. However our Lakes will NOT fix themselves, after a century of human change. It will require man made solutions, for man made problems ! What ever that may be. It may be a Super dredge, so we can clear all the channels, a break wall, a permanent sand by pass system, a second opening, or just more gross pollutant traps and foreshore vegetation management, and allow the incol lagoon to stay ? Whatever is agreed, that all takes a major State and Federal FUNDING commitment, NOT just the usual few press releases, a few weeks out from any election. How many times have we seen that old chestnut rolled out ? The public have lost faith. However, just how can they "fix the lakes", when the stakeholders haven't even agreed on "how to fix it ", or "who is responsible", and "who will pay for it." Round and round we go, nothing changes, election after election. That is why myself and Independent Clr Greg Best from Budgewoi Ward, ( there are three Lakes in the system ) have now called on your Council for a vote to call for all three levels of government to come together, and try and go forward on this long standing issue. Now, not three weeks out from the next election. Lets get serious, early on the issue this time around. If your local Central Coast Council can vote to tackle Global Climate issues with gusto, I think they can now throw some of their political energy at this constant long standing, and now growing community outrage, on inaction on our Lakes and Waterways. It is will only be community outrage directed at politicians, at all levels, that will bring about any action on the Lakes, but first they must all agree on how to fix it, and who is paying. Council votes Monday 9th September Wyong Chambers on calling all three levels of Government to come together, to try to move forward on the issue. That is the important first step in the process of repairing our Lakes. COMMENTS welcome, try to be respectful, but I understand if you lose the plot on this one. I am certainly over it. So let your local State and Federal Members know too. The Environment is a Federal issue, the Lakes are owned by the NSW State Crown Lands, and Council is paid to manage on their behalf. We need to all agree to a new Plan !
