It’s energy opens and releases emotional blocks which helps to bring the body back to balance. Linden flowers are a powerful relaxing nervine. Passion flower is the ultimate herb for easing anxiety... it is also the herb to use when there is long term emotional pain that has not been released. 22.01.2022 In shamanic traditions, the drum is used to call the spirits and to facilitate the transition of the shaman, via a trance state, to the other realms for the purpose of mediation and healing. Often referred to as the Shaman’s Horse, the drum and its beat are what the shaman rides between the physical and spiritual worlds when she is journeying. The process of making your drum is reflective of your own birth story, the births of your children (if you have any) and how yo...u do process in your life both creatively and in relationship to Other. Birthing a drum becomes a ‘way in’ to your inner workings, a way for you to be present with the imprinting from your own birth and early childhood. Join Nicki and l for a 2 Day Shamanic Drum Making Course on 28th and 29th of November. For more details please see the link in our bio or on our website. Due to current restrictions we only have a couple of spots left. See more

21.01.2022 It’s been a while since l’ve shown my face here so l thought l would re introduce myself. I’m Katherine. The idea for Acorn and Oak came during my very first Shamanic Drum Journey.....and within 2 months Acorn and Oak opened its doors. I wanted to space where you felt nurtured and nourished, Both physically and spiritually. Where qualified clinicians were available over the counter to help you acutely as well as for longer appointments for more chronic health issues. A spa...ce upstairs where your soul could unfurl. Where we listen to each other with the ears of our heart, never judging, where we are all students as well as teachers, all sharing in the experiences that sitting in circle offers us. I’ve been a naturopath for 17 years and l have a special interest in supporting women throughout pregnancy, birth preparation and postpartum. My aim is to assist them and bub in achieving optimal health physically whilst working through any emotional barriers which may be stopping them from achieving the birth that they want. In more recent years l have been journeying deep within with my shamanic studies, firstly with the school of shamanic womancraft and more recently I’ve commenced studying to become a nusta paqu (medicine woman) with the inca medicine school. Deeply connecting with Mother Earth and the more than human world has certainly changed my life. Nothing makes my heart sing more than sitting in circle with others. The connection with both ourselves and others. I believe that everyone has the answers that they are seeking within themselves. It’s about creating the time and space to allow the reconnection to Develop. I’ve recently moved from Ballarat to the Castlemaine area. So although l’m not in the dispensary very often these days l am busy working behind the scenes. My plan for 2021 is to offer circles and workshops at both Acorn and Oak and on land near Castlemaine and ultimately to create a retreat on land for you to visit where herbs will be grown where food will be grown and where we will journey together, side by side as we re connect to the wisdom of Mother Earth and each other. A place to come home to......ourselves Katherine

20.01.2022 LAMMAS or Lughnasadh (loo-nass-ah) is traditionally celebrated on the 2nd of Feb. Astrologically the exact date and time was today at 1.40am It signals the end of Summer and heralds the beginning of Autumn and is the first of 3 harvest celebrations. Lammas often takes place during the hottest part of the year. The first grains are ripe for harvest and many fruit trees are overloaded with ripe produce, it’s a time to celebrate the bounty of life. Although the days s...till seem long, they are getting shorter as we begin our descent into winter. Lammas is a time to give thanks for the abundance that we have harvested in the past 6 months. We can observe and bring to our consciousness what we are harvesting on a metaphorical level. How have our intentions/seeds grown over the last 6 months since spring. Are you happy with what seeds were sown and the fruits of your ‘harvest’? #what will you change next time? I’ve been busy in the kitchen with an abundance of peaches. We’ve made jam, jelly, fruit leather, stewed them, made cakes and also frozen many many kilos. Why not celebrate by sharing your harvest/bounty with friends and family or have a day of cooking with your loved ones? Lammas Blessings dear ones. #lammas #sabbatcelebration #seasonalliving #seasonalrhythms #bountifulharvest See more

20.01.2022 Magic happens when women gather! Gathering in circle reconnects us and activates the power of our ancient ways (we have been circling for at longer than we haven’t). Circling with women reminds us of the times when women were honoured for their feminine wisdom and their connection to Mother Earth’s healing powers. It is a space where we can appreciate who we really are as women and our place in this society. ... Together we remember where we come from, where we are going, and how we want to get there. Together we envision and manifest our dreams. #womenscircles #sittingincircle #whenwomengathermagichappens #ballaratwomenscircles #monthlycircles See more

19.01.2022 The gut-brain axis consists of bidirectional communication between the central and the enteric nervous system, linking emotional and cognitive centres of the brain with peripheral intestinal functions. Recent advances in research have described the importance of gut microbiota in influencing these interactions. We know that there is a huge link between the health of our gut and the way our brain functions. The bacteria in your gut have the ability to influence how calm you are by telling your brain to make certain chemicals. For these reasons, Naturopaths make investigations of the gut condition a big priority when alleviating emotional conditions, such as anxiety. If you are experiencing anxiety, please reach out we would love to support you. #SelfAwarwnessSaturday image via @pinterest

17.01.2022 Lavender is a herb native to Northern Africa and the mountainous region of the Mediterranean. There is an abundance of research that suggests that lavender can help digestive upset, such as vomiting, nausea, intestinal gas and abdominal swelling. Lavender works as an axiolytic and as a sedative, which makes it particularly effective in inducing sleep. Lavender interacts with the GABA neurotransmitter to help quiet the brain and nervous system activity, reducing agitation, anger, aggression and restlessness. #PowerOfHerbs

09.01.2022 We are very excited to welcome our new intern Louise! She will be at Acorn and Oak every Thursday working alongside Nicki blending our naturopathically formulated herbal teas, botanically infused balms and creams and sprinkling magic wherever she goes. We are so very fortunate to have you here for the next 6 months. Here’s some words from Louise....... ... I’ve been in Ballarat for 3.5 years now and feel very at home here - although I still love to visit my childhood home of Lakes Entrance for some salty air and fresh seafood as much as possible! I’m a Mamma to Hazel & Arthur who keep me very busy and thoroughly enjoying the journey to becoming a naturopath - both of which consume my time right now! Naturopathy is now a health science degree (which is of course amazing) but the art of traditional healing can get a little lost in the rigid world of university so to be able to balance my studies with real world experiences Acorn & Oak and draw on the wisdom and knowledge of experienced naturopaths is truly a very special learning opportunity for me - and I am so grateful! #newintern #welcome #naturopathintraining #futureherbalist See more

07.01.2022 Searching for your soul implies that it is not within you already, that you have to go out and find your intrinsic self. But as humans who are made up of energy, we are born with a soul that is never lost, thus can never be searched for or found. Your body is made up of energy. Some times energy is at full capacity - you feel joy, happy, content, fulfilled, satisfied. But at other stages of your life, the energy you feel is less than full capacity, a quarter of what you know your soul has the potential to be. Change the dialogue. Don't search for what is already within you. Rather, search for experiences that will naturally charge your soul. #ThriveThursday

06.01.2022 Join Lauretta and l tomorrow evening at 7:30 whilst we chat about how naturopathy can prevent as well as treat/support postnatal depletion. Posted @withregram @ballaratborn_midwifelauretta Postnatal Depletion My next Mumma Thrive - InstaLIVE is this Wednesday the 18th @ 7:30pm AEDT, with the lovely Katherine Knott.... Kath is a mama to four beautiful children, a Naturopath who specialises in Women’s health and owner of the wonderful @acornandoak_apothecary We are talking about postnatal depletion, it’s a really Important topic and not just for those with newborns but to all Mum’s regardless of how ‘postnatal’ you are. It is a physical and mental deterioration caused not just by the process of giving birth and breastfeeding, but by the stresses and strains of modern parenthood. Dr Oscar Serralach @droscarserrallach is a GP who specialises in helping women in this area and has written a book on the topic - The Postnatal Depletion Cure: A Complete Guide to Rebuilding Your Health and Reclaiming Your Energy for Mothers of Newborns, Toddlers, and Young Children. Serrallach describes it as a syndrome of accumulated issues including deep fatigue, hyper-vigilance and a feeling of being overwhelmed. This depletion can lead to poor immune function and poor gut health for years after we give birth. I think these symptoms of postnatal depletion are some that every modern mother could identify with. He also explores the lack of support around modern mothers and the way our systems and culture are lacking in a broader sense and how we need to change things on a societal level.... I couldn’t agree more. Kath and I are going to explore this topic in depth on Wednesday and I’d love to see you there - if you can’t make it you can watch or listen back like a podcast on my IGTV. I’d love to know if you’ve heard of it before? Let me know below and as always send me any questions you have. Xx Lauretta

05.01.2022 We want to guide you to normalise the natural period cycle. We want to celebrate your period, instead of encouraging you to take a synthetic pill so you don't have to bleed... a pill to make your body's natural cycle less inconvenient. A pack of pads thrown at our face, a humongous tampon given without explanation and a box of pills is often the only direction many of us had. We want to tell you all the things you deserve to hear on your first bleed. By honouring your cycle - eating for it, moving for it, meditating for it, you can not only accept your cycle, but THRIVE with it. If you are experiencing any issues with your menstrual cycle, don't be a stranger! Reach out #WombWednesday

05.01.2022 I’m very excited to be working in the dispensary today until 3pm so come visit! Kath #shoplocalballarat #handmadeballarat
