07.01.2022 Congratulations to Professor Brigid Gillespie, Chair of ACORN’s Research Committee, who this year received the Sigma International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame... award. Entry to the Hall of Fame recognises nurse researchers who have achieved significant and sustained national or international recognition and whose research has improved the profession and the people it serves. A nice end to a challenging year in research, Brigid posted on Twitter, with this photo of her award. Brigid is also Professor of Patient Safety in Nursing at the Griffith University School of Nursing and Midwifery and Gold Coast University Hospital. We are privileged to have Brigid leading our Research Committee, which coordinates all aspects of research activity for the College, including supporting and guiding researchers.

In the summer issue of the Journal of Perioperative Nursing, ...Dr Lois Hamlin traces the beginnings of our profession: from Florence Nightingale’s school of nursing in England to the first dedicated operating room nurse employed in the USA in 1899. You will find the summer issue (Volume 33, Issue 4 2020) online at: https://www.journal.acorn.org.au/jpn/vol33/iss4/ It also includes the following articles: Editorial by Jed Duff Enhanced recovery after surgery in Australia: A classic example of an evidence-practice gap Identifying research priorities for improving patient care in the perioperative environment a peer-reviewed cross-sectional study by Associate Professor Pat Nicholson and others Handover using ISBAR principles in two perioperative sites a quality improvement project by Patricia Kitney and others
