24.01.2022 Dearest yoga students How are you? As much as Im missing you all, Ive decided not to take my classes online for the time being and instead, Im focusing on my personal practice and continuing yoga teacher training. As you know Im new to teaching and Im using this break to embark on my path towards the 500 hour yoga teacher qualification. When all this is over and Derrimut reopens, Ill be prepared and eager to continue classes with you all.... In the meantime... many of my teachers, who are highly experienced and skilful at teaching, are offering a range of online classes that I encourage you to try. Learning from different teachers and trying different styles of yoga will advance your practice and deepen your understanding of yoga. Now you have the opportunity to try classes at many of the fabulous yoga studios in Adelaide that are offering online classes at discounted rates. Try a dynamic and powerful vinyasa @powerlivingadelaideyoga or my favourite yin class with Jem @onlineyogawithjemandfriends. Start or continue your home practice - you can move thorough a few rounds of sun salutations (weve been practicing A, B, and classical) and your favourite postures. It doesnt have to be complicated or long and if you forget something then make it up. Play some relaxing music, light a candle or incense, and bring yoga into your home. Its just you, your mat, and the infinite possibilities of moving your body and quietening your mind. Dont forgot that youre not alone. Im still here and available if you have questions about your practice or want to chat. I also offer counselling and mentoring so if you feel this could be helpful for you then please reach out. 20.01.2022 Science continues to accumulate evidence showing the benefits of yoga! Research on the vagus nerve, a complex neural network connecting the brain to the heart, gut, immune system and other organs, shows how it stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system and initiates feelings of calm and relaxation. Field says there are plenty of ways to stimulate vagal activity without a device or implant. We know that massage and yoga promote parasympathetic nervous system activity, which is vagal activity, she says. Her research has shown that these and many related activities increase vagal activity via pressure receptors buried beneath the surface of the skin receptors located throughout the body, and ones that only firm pressure or a deep stretch can reach.



20.01.2022 I am so grateful to teach yoga and to have the privilege of guiding students in their practice on regular basis. It is a blessing to watch students as they grow and transform through their yoga journeys; small but significant and lasting changes as the seeds of yoga call them home. I hadnt planned on becoming a teacher and its been a surprise to discover how much this role has fit me. I am finding comfort and joy in teaching and self-acceptance in the challenging parts of being a teacher too. Thank you to my yoga students for gifting me the opportunity to learn from and with you; together well continue to move our bodies, still our minds, and cultivate peace and compassion within and around us. I’m keeping it the same as my usual Wednesday class time - yin yoga 8:30-9:30pm via Zoom This week is the second in our cycle focused on cultivating ‘tapas’ in our yoga practice and daily lives.
