24.01.2022 My first workshop for the AIR project is just over a fortnight away. Only six spots available. Come & join me!

24.01.2022 Well what a fantastic afternoon that was! Today I joined @conservationvolunteers and @gladstoneregionalcouncil Conservation Team to show them a refined version of making botanical paper at Sand Piper Park, Gladstone (no water or power on site). They have done a TREMENDOUS job in clearing this space, and do so in such a humble , modest way. I’ll be back tomorrow where we will use some organic dyes from fallen berries on site and make some organic brushes, then do a spot of d...rawing on the paper that has been left to dry overnight. #conservationvolunteersaustralia #gladstoneregionalcouncil #botanicalpaper #communityart #freeart #organicart #gladstone #gladstoneregion #4680 #qldart #qldartist #cqartist Melissa from A Country Arts Practice acknowledges the Byellee, the Gooreng Gooreng, the Gurang and Taribelang Bunda people, the traditional custodians of the lands and waters of where she works. 23.01.2022 ‘The house on the hill’ Botanical paper cotton string and bamboo stick. Two years ago we moved to the Gladstone Region, Central Queensland. We had never been to Queensland before this. I love this place as much as the farm I grew up on. Not long after we had settled in, we drove past a house on a hill and I began to daydream heavily about our life in this home. Yearning to connect and seek a new comfort zone. I’m so grateful to be living in this community- it’s the people ...and the land that make me feel so at home. This little house I made for the @houses_and_hearts_of_hope project, so it’s fitting that it’s found it’s place with the hills and where I hope to be some day. #botanicalpaper #wallhanging #hills #houses #home #daydreaming Melissa from A Country Arts Practice acknowledges the Byellee, the Gooreng Gooreng, the Gurang and Taribelang Bunda people, the traditional custodians of the lands and waters of where she works. 22.01.2022 This little beauty from @mylittlepottedgarden came home with me this morning! It was hard to choose, let me tell you! So much detail and consideration in each piece that comes with the warmest of smiles from Merrin. Delightful all ‘round!

21.01.2022 Several botanical paper pockets are tucked into little spaces along the beach side of the botanic walk at Canoe Point, Tannum Sands. If you happen to find them, they are yours to keep! These pieces are made by me in collaboration with the local landscape. They are a reminder of why we go for walks in nature & the benefits it has to give. These little pockets are made from from Melaleuca (paper bark tree) Banana bush and Fabriano paper. 20.01.2022 I’m playing a bit of catch up over the next couple of days, with my final community arts workshops for ‘From the Ground Up’. Weather got in the way with me spending time with Conservation Volunteers Australia, Gladstone a few weeks back, but this week I’ll be doing an on site botanical paper workshop at Sand Piper Park, using bottle brush and native hibiscus inclusions. Looking forward to it! 20.01.2022 This morning I had the pleasure of speaking with Paul Culliver at ABC Capricornia Radio about Art-Ports Community Christmas Tree. If you would like to have a listen, you can tune in at around the 10 minute mark. Many thanks Paul for your time!

19.01.2022 MORE FREE ART AT THE BOTANIC WALK ON THE WAY! Rain is forecast for Sunday (yay!) so I will be hiding these along the walk this Saturday, the 19/9. This time, there will be 7 sets of gift tags- threads of 6. The botanical paper is a range of eucalyptus, whistling pine, agave and tropical almond. Enjoy! 19.01.2022 For the past three months I’ve been learning all sorts of tricks with local legend, Frances Schulze. It’s not the first time either. I met Frances at Calliope Historical Village markets around 18 months ago. The Gladstone Spinners & Weavers were there and Frances was doing a demonstration on how to make string from banana bush. We got chatting and I jumped right in to get her details for future chats. Frances was born ‘n bred in the Boyne Valley and amongst all of the things ...she is very talented at doing (there’s a long list!) she’s also a great storyteller. There’s much to be taken from a session of learning to weave, having a laugh and a chat! @mssharonlouise made these workshops a great experience too, so thanks to her for getting on board with this experiment. There really needs to be more of these types of collaborations in the community. I’ve learnt so much from Frances and I’m so grateful for her time, knowledge, wisdom, patience, honesty, sense of humour & veggies!! Thank you SO much to @nfphouse for having us for the past three months too- another bunch of local legends who are so kind, clever and considerate!! These two are: Cocoa palm fronds, twining weave basket & banana bush and cocoa palm randing weave basket. Both first attempts. #weaving #womenwhoweave #cocoapalm #frond #bananabush #community #collaboration #craft #gladstone #gladstoneregion #4680 #qldartist #cqart

19.01.2022 Students at Miriam Vale State School are giving us a hand for Art-Ports Community Christmas Tree project! 18.01.2022 It’s the final week for ‘From the Ground Up’ so I’ve started putting together a selection of works that are going to be donated to my project partners, Conservation Volunteers Australia. Together, we will chat about what happens with these works next, and how best to raise funds for this fantastic not-for-profit. Here’s ten that I’ve selected so far. 09.01.2022 This has been such a lovely thing to do for the local community!

08.01.2022 Some highlights of today’s workshop on site at Sand Piper Park, Gladstone with @gladstoneregionalcouncil Conservation Team and the Gladstone team @conservationvolunteers This afternoon we took a look at the botanical paper we made yesterday, which had been hit by a storm overnight, but still survived! Some fantastic indentations by a possible pelt of hail (more images to follow) and a flutter of fragile pieces amongst a solid piece of paper that was still hanging from the ma...keshift clothesline! We used organic inks made from the soap tree berries and a eucalyptus cook. Then used organic brushes from Fountain head weed, Casuarina leaves, feathers and carved sticks. 07.01.2022 ‘Not designed to last’. This no cook botanical paper process was an experiment to represent all the rubbish that has been thoughtlessly left in the landscape, consequently having an impact of the longevity of the land.
