11.01.2022 A year ago today, our hearts were broken with the loss of two of our volunteers - Deputy Captain Geoffrey Keaton and firefighter Andrew O’Dwyer. The two young d...ads from the Horsley Park Rural Fire Brigade were tragically killed when a tree hit the fire truck they were in at Buxton, south-west of Sydney. Today, many of our members will take a moment for quiet reflection, to give thanks and remember. Sadly, Geoff and Andrew were two of four NSW RFS members who lost their lives last season and we will mark the anniversary of the loss of Sam McPaul and Colin Burns in the days ahead. And we will also remember the lives of the three American aircrew who died when a Large Air Tanker crashed in January. While we reflect on the terrible loss, including for members of the community, we are also grateful for the support, friendship and camaraderie shown over the last year, in such a difficult time for so many people. Days like this are tough and support is available. 11.01.2022 Today we will pause to remember the life of Sam McPaul, a volunteer from the Morven Brigade, who lost his life while protecting the community on this day last y...ear. Sam, a young father to be, was killed when a freak weather event flipped the fire truck he was on while battling fires in southern NSW. Commissioner Rob Rogers will today broadcast a message of support to volunteers in the area today, and they will hold a moment's silence to reflect. Tomorrow, we will also remember the passing of Colin Burns from the Belowra Brigade, who lost his life on New Years Eve last year. 25 people lost their lives last bush fire season - our most challenging fire season in our history. We remember all of them at this time of year. 07.01.2022 Today marks the anniversary of the tragic death of NSW RFS volunteer Colin Burns. Colin lost his life on his property at Belowra, as he was making his way to th...e local fire shed to help protect local residents who were sheltering from fires. Colin was a long time member of the Belowra Brigade in the NSW RFS Far South Coast Team, initially joining in the late 1980s. We remember Colin and our hearts go out to his family, friends and fellow volunteers today.

02.01.2022 As we prepare to farewell 2020, we wanted to share the story of one of the many people who this time last year were facing terrible fires. Jim, who lives at Bat...emans Bay on the south coast, lost his home in the fires on New Year's Eve. You may have seen him sharing his story in our TV commercials, so others can learn from his experience. After the fires, he wrote poems to help his recovery. Jim says he and his mates didn't dare to use the words 'Happy New Year' last December. This New Year's Eve, our thoughts are with Jim and all the people impacted by the fires who are continuing with their recovery. Remember - help is available.
