22.01.2022 Hi riders, ride entries are not yet open on Manehub but we hope to be opening soon. We have a few issues to sort through, brought on by this extraordinary year. We appreciate your patience. Thanks also to Magic Hands horse bodywork (Marisa Levitt) for again sponsoring our intermediate riders' completion awards, and to the NSW Office of Sport which supports endurance riding throughout New South Wales and the ACT.

21.01.2022 From ACTEA: Everyone will be aware that we are facing a high risk weekend with the Orroral Valley Fire and the possibility that the fires just beyond our borders could also flare up. The Emergency Services are throwing everything at these fires and in order to keep people safe and to allow their vehicles to operate effectively there is every likelihood they will be closing roads. Some of these roads might be the only routes to agistment properties. ACTEA has spend 2 weeks tr...ying to clarify several statements made in village meetings and information videos about conditions for access for horse owners in this situation. Yesterday, David Foot, the Deputy Incident Controller from ESA confirmed that: when a bushfire is at an ADVICE level horse owners will be allowed through a roadblock to access their horses At WATCH AND ACT level owners will be allowed access to retrieve their horses with caution when a fire is at EMERGENCY level warning horse owners will not be allowed through road blocks as at this point the fire may pose a threat to lives. David Foot has also confirmed that there will be no need for horse owner's proof of identification at the road blocks. Everyone should be aware that in the current fire situation conditions can change quickly so please make sure that if your bush fire plan is to remove your horse you act in a timely manner. Give yourself and your horse plenty of time to do this calmly. The latest you should be moving your horse is at Watch and Act on a Severe bushfire day. If you are relying on other people to move your horse please make sure you have organised for them to do it early. Unfamiliar and even uninvited drivers clogging up narrow roadways has been a safety issue on agistment properties in the past and can delay others leaving. Queanbeyan Showground will not be available as an evacuation centre on the weekend of 1-2 February but there is plenty of room at EPIC. Remember: Once you enter EPIC, please make your way directly to the EPIC stables, where you will be required to register your details. An EPIC staff member will be available to assist with registration. Please bring: *water and feed buckets, *enough feed for 24 hours plus, *any horse/s medication and, *some simple first aid. PLEASE NOTE SOMEONE MUST STAY WITH THE HORSE/S AT ALL TIMES. You will be required to clean out the stable upon leaving Stay safe everyone. Christine Lawrence President ACT Equestrian Association

20.01.2022 For those who enjoy the benefits of NSW Crown Land open spaces ... A very high level document which does not mention horse riding or trails, and barely even discusses recreation except for boating and urban green spaces. We need to let them know how important Crown land is for horse riders, especially around the outskirts of cities where roads are getting busier and riding opportunities are shrinking. Submissions close Thursday August 20th. https://www.industry.nsw.gov.au//draft-state-strategic-pla

20.01.2022 Excellent news from our amazing local vets at Webb Equine Vet Service!

18.01.2022 Hi all, as preparations for the National Capital Ride are gearing up, we are looking for volunteers to help on the weekend and especially, on Sunday (11 October). A variety of jobs are available, from checkpoint duties to "running" books from the vet ring to the office (walking is acceptable!) If you would like to get an insight into how a ride works, and a close up view of competitors, please contact us. A Facebook message is fine or contact Fia on 0401 999 473 or Hannah 0420 359 288. You do not even have to be an experienced horse person to help out. Remember, without volunteers, no one will be able to enjoy this wonderful ride. A reminder of our picturesque setting!

17.01.2022 Hey horse riders, the ACT government has responded to ACT mountain bike rider's concerns about not having enough places to 'experience' MTB riding. The ACT Govt has written a 105pg report on how to increase cycling opportunities. The area they've identified for a new Stromlo Forest type recreation park is the Blue Range/Sherwood Forest area. This area is where ACTERA runs it's annual Brookvale ride as well as a known training and recreational area for many horse riders. Despite our efforts in consultations, horse rider's interests barely rate a mention in the draft report. If you want to see more consideration for the needs of horse riding (and other recreational pursuits) please take a moment to have your say at: Your Say on the ACT govt website: https://www.yoursay.act.gov.au//more-information-about-dra

09.01.2022 Hi all, ACTERA is saddened by the forced cancellation of a number of endurance rides which were scheduled for August and September. The good news is that we have decided to continue with preparations for the National Capital (Brookvale) ride in October! Our ride date is more than two weeks after the current end date for the six-week NSW Government restrictions on community sport, which prevent rides being held. It is likely that we will know before the six weeks is up, whet...her restrictions will be lifted or extended. Please stay tuned and we will keep you informed of how plans are going and of any changes that must be made to protect you and the community. Because of the uncertainty, entries to the ride will not be opened until closer to the ride date. Stay safe, keep riding,. Fia Ride Secretary See more

08.01.2022 Hi all, I am very sad to inform you that the 2020 National Capital (Brookvale) ride will not be going ahead. The reason is that the NSWERA will not allow us to put a limit on numbers, Given the built-up demand due to recent ride cancellations caused by COVID-19 restrictions, we are concerned that we may get more entries than our small ride base can safely handle, not just in terms of accommodation but in vetting. This is more of a factor as good rainfall this year means w...e can only use one creek crossing to access the vet ring, meaning there will be two way traffic. Large numbers of horses trying to cross the creek would create a safety risk to horses and riders, as well as long delays. We ate also limited by the physical area of the vet ring to a maximum of four trot out lines, which under AERA rules equates to 120 horses. A huge amount of work has been done by ACTERA volunteers to make the ride happen. We are all very sad that riders will not be able to enjoy our beautiful course this year. Our feeling is that cancelling now would be better than having to cancel after ride entries are received. Happy riding (at home) and bring on 2021. Fia Hasko-Stewart (Cumming), ride secretary.
