17.01.2022 With travel restrictions in place for those who have been in COVID-19 affected areas of NSW in the past 14 days, there are a lot of Canberrans and visitors to... the ACT who are currently quarantining. ? Quarantine is used to separate a person who may have been exposed to COVID-19. ? Home quarantine means you go straight home when you arrive. You cannot stop anywhere, not even to buy food, medicine or groceries. Where possible, use personal transport such as a private car to reach your home. ? You should limit your contact with other people in your home as much as possible by: staying in your own room using a separate bathroom, if you can staying at least 1.5 metres away from others avoiding common areas practising good hand hygiene and covering coughs and sneezes avoiding sharing household items frequently cleaning the house, especially things people touch often, like door handles. ? It’s not always easy to be in quarantine. If you are quarantining and need support, ACT Health can refer you to our COVID-19 Wellbeing Team. More information on quarantine can be found on our website: www.covid19.act.gov.au/quarantine

15.01.2022 ACT Health is warning Canberrans about the potential for a thunderstorm asthma event in the ACT region today (Sunday 22 November) and tomorrow (Monday 23 Novemb...er). The warning comes as we see elevated pollen levels and the possibility of severe thunderstorms over the next two days, increasing the risk of a thunderstorm asthma event. People who suffer from hay fever or asthma are encouraged to be vigilant for any worsening of their condition. Thunderstorm asthma can be sudden, serious and even life threatening for people with asthma or hay fever. Protect yourself, or someone you care for, from risk by: staying indoors with windows and doors closed staying in air-conditioned premises, and if possible, switching the air conditioner to ‘recycle’ or ‘recirculate’ to reduce the amount of dust entering the building avoiding all vigorous exercise, especially if you have a heart or lung conditions If you experience asthma symptoms which are unrelieved by their usual asthma treatment, seek urgent medical advice. In the event of a medical emergency call 000. If it is safe to do so, check on elderly neighbours or people who you think might need extra help. 07.01.2022 UPDATE: the exemption form for non-ACT residents is now live on the website. Non-ACT residents who have been in a COVID-affected area in the past 14 days, pl...ease do not visit the ACT. From midday today (2 January 2021) you must have a valid exemption to legally be in the ACT. Strengthening these travel restrictions is necessary to protect the Canberra community. ACT Policing will be enforcing these new rules, and those who do not comply can be fined. For more information, visit https://www.covid19.act.gov.au/community/travel/nsw/ Applications for exemption need to be submitted at least three days before travelling but no more than 14 days before travelling.
