25.01.2022 A L W A Y S W A S A L W A Y S W I L L B E In Australia we are celebrating NAIDOC week - recognising the rich history of Aboriginal culture a...nd celebrating the achievements of Aboriginal people. Here are a selection of portraits from the Wiradjuri Grasslands project I have been working on for the last four years with Aboriginal communities on country - Brungle, Wagga, Narrandera, Tumut, Cootamundra started and facilitated by @thewiredlab. The aim is to inspire new artists to move away from raffia, jute and other imported materials to be able to identify, harvest and weave with native plants and materials endemic to the area. Hard to choose just ten pics from the years of workshops and events but these ones show some of the pride the project engendered, the quality of connection of young and old and beautiful things produced. Sending my love and respect to elders Aunty Cheryl Penrith, Aunty Gail Mandersen, Aunty Sony Piper, Aunty Phyllis, Aunty Pat and Deb Wood (and her Eve), Peter Beath, Melanie Evans, Amanda Reynolds and Nioka Dupond; proud mob committed to sharing and strengthening their culture. I'm honoured to be welcomed and richer for my experiences with you. Especially the laughs. Mandaang guwu. When things settle, we are working towards an exhibition at The Museum of The Riverina which will weave together fibre work, imagery, language and storytelling from the grasslands. 24.01.2022 First basket... local weeds and native fibres.

24.01.2022 This little willow bark pod has ever so slowly been growing over the past couple of weeks. Possibly the longest I’ve ever spent weaving a single basket It’s b...een nice whilst away camping in the woods to have a project like this. Easy to pick up and put down when you feel and doesn’t require too much preplanning or soaking, the thin strips of willow bark only needing a brief dip in water before they’re flexible enough to start coiling again. 12.01.2022 "The three words I hear all the time are 'thank you' and 'joy'." Pete Rush says he has connected with everyone in his local community, thanks to his driftwood creatures.

10.01.2022 Looking for something to do? Make a basket! It has been a (very) long wait but our raffia is back up online. And this post is a commitment to announce that we w...ill be regularly updating our shop. Things have changed this year and so has our opportunity to supply you with raffia dyed by us on the farm in Wildes Meadow. We’re also in the throws of putting together a few online classes. This is something I have long wanted to do and finally after a little ‘pandemic pause’ feel like we can achieve. Standby for further announcements but with luck and a bit of elbow grease we hope to welcome you into our home before the end of this crazy 2020. #raffia#maker#basketry#fibre#fibreart#gift#craft#artsupplies#southernhighlands#mrandmrsmunro
