25.01.2022 I rarely recommend service providers, but if you live near Bunbury W.A. and you have a child with an ASD diagnosis, I strongly recommend the support from this team.

24.01.2022 Free... happening this week :) https://autism-explained.teachable.com/p/2020-online-summit

21.01.2022 The post COVID-19 Perth lockdown PD calendar is soon to be released. There will be lectures, webinars and live online workshops for a mix of families, educators and health professionals. In the meantime, I follow or subscribe to more than 100 autism blogs, pages, journals and groups. The Autism Cafe is absolutely one of my favourite, what an incredible video about incredible boys made by an incredible parent (who happens to be autistic too).

21.01.2022 I'm a big fan of this author. The wait and see approach is dangerous.

20.01.2022 Ever had to make a Freedom of Information request just to find out why the NDIS made the decision they did? Can't believe it was ever a thing but it was. But so...me really good news today- that's all changing. If you want: access to your personal information copies of medical reports used during access or reviews copies of other information used during planning meetings or reviews reasons why the NDIA have made the decision they have You can ask for the information to be given to you. You just have to fill out a form. You can find information about the changes here - https://www.ndis.gov.au//4906-improving-participants-acces You can find the form on this page - https://www.ndis.gov.au//ac/participant-information-access #NDISMakeItWork (Image description: A picture of files in a filing cabinet. 18.01.2022 There has been some debate about a book that will have this title. IMHO 'Strikes' is a word associated with lightning. Conceptually and morally, I find this ok! Lightning can be expected and surprising, it can be inspiring and devastating, it can be beautiful and damaging, it can be a catalyst for loss and growth, it can be uniting and dividing, it can be in the limelight and unnoticed, it can be powerful and subtle, but overall it is unique, as is its impact, as are the perceptions developed by all. Acceptance and awareness will only help as this is a naturally occurring life long experience. Maybe it's time to argue less about language preferences and more time about what supports are needed.

17.01.2022 Short clip of me talking about having a not-autistic brother. Filmed at Top Secret Comedy.

14.01.2022 AUTISM TRAINING - BUNBURY - JANUARY 2021 I am humbled and grateful to have been nominated for a 2021 HESTA Individual Impact award for my work supporting inclusive practices in Australia. I work with the Autism community, linking knowledge and practical skills from the health, disability and education sectors to the amazing families and professionals working hard to make a difference every day.... It is absolutely invaluable when part of a child's 'village' is the school team. It's my privilege to work with teachers, EAs, families, allied health professionals and school leaders to deliver unique training opportunities. The next public workshop available in Western Australia is in BUNBURY. It sold out in Perth last year. Maybe what you do is effective, but you're not sure why. Maybe you're unsure about the research behind an approach that's been recommended. Maybe you want an update. Maybe you want an enjoyable couple of days at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre with colleagues... who knows. Last year's attendees were not disappointed (you can see the feedback forms in my FB Event page). Register now for the early bird price of $525 for two days, fully catered, including software license and goodie bag. https://www.actforautism.com.au//jan-18th-and-19th-bunbury

13.01.2022 The team at Autism CRC express our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Professor Margot Prior AO, a true pioneer of autism research. Margot publ...ished the first Australian paper on autism in 1973 and was the first female Professor of Clinical Psychology in Australia. The international impact of her leading research was recognised in 2018 with the International Society for Autism Research (INSAR) Lifetime Achievement Award. A mentor, colleague and inspiration to many in our community.

13.01.2022 This relates to my earlier post in many ways :)

10.01.2022 Bunbury teachers, education assistants, school leaders - you don't do your job for the money or the holidays. So give up two days in your holidays and pay some money :) This course will remind you why you got into this career - to make a difference. To know thy impact. To support young people. This course isn't just about setting up your classroom to support Autistic learners - this course is about neuroscience, behaviour analysis, functional communication, the latest resear...ch in learning psychology. What is packed into these two days has the potential to change your pedagogy for every single student in your primary school, whether that's mainstream, Education support, or a Specialist Learning Program. This course sold out in Perth last year with feedback from very experienced and very new educators rating each of the workshops in this intensive two day experience as Excellent. Come and see for yourself! Some feedback sheets from 2020 are in the comments.

10.01.2022 This is important! @weteachletstalk

06.01.2022 To all the parents who dream of this moment: build your village and keep going. To all therapists, measure your success by levels of engagement and not by levels of compliance. To all teachers, the privilege to shape the journey for a child and their family extends beyond curriculum content descriptors. Innovate, advocate, learn and collaborate. Quality of lives depend on it.
