24.01.2022 Karin Adriansdatter is a performing and visual artist. She works as a disability support worker and is a certified Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) teacher coordinator. I have been piecing a new quilt using fabric from a collection of scraps from my mother’s basement of treasures, fabric that dates back to the 1930’s. I can see the skirt worn by my mother as a teen, the Easter dresses belonging to my sisters, or a shirt of dad’s in these scraps. Mum saw the potential ...in every bit of cloth and this vision held promise for a future use. This quilt is of uniformly sized small squares where no square is next to another square of the same fabric. It is a kind of fabric improvisation and a creative response to thoughts about equality. It takes time, precision and effort to cut each square from the ragged scraps. As I cut, I think about my family and how creativity sustains us all through hard times and difficulties.
