23.01.2022 repost Exercise Right

23.01.2022 1 in 5 Australians aged 45 and over are living with persistent, ongoing pain. Chronic pain can result from injury, surgery, musculoskeletal conditions such as a...rthritis, osteoporosis and back pain, and other medical conditions. Research clearly shows that exercise can reduce pain and improve function in people with musculoskeletal pain. It's common for people with pain to lose their confidence with movement or worry that physical activity will make their pain worse. In reality, the long term effect is a further decrease in function and increased pain. Exercising with pain is SAFE and ESSENTIAL on your road to recovery. Accredited Exercise Physiologists are university qualified allied health professionals trained in exercise prescription for chronic conditions. They will work with you to design an exercise intervention that is specific to YOU. Find an expert near you: www.essa.org.au/find-aep #ExerciseRight #NPW2020

22.01.2022 To all the amazing mums

22.01.2022 Merry Christmas Everyone we hope you all have a wonderful day.

22.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW - the consequences of chronic musculoskeletal pain (fear, anxiety, mood, inactivity) drive pain more than tissue related factors (joint and nerve injury). In addition, changes in the brain and nervous system cause a shift to increased protection against potential harm. That is, pain can reflect a need to protect. SO, the first step towards reducing your pain is to understand your pain!... Accredited Exercise Physiologists understand pain and can provide education so you can learn more about your condition, the pain and that it is SAFE to move - this can be extremely empowering and is an essential part of an effective pain treatment. 17.01.2022 Elijah was transitioned over as a client to our team at Activate Health and Movement from the wonderful team at IBIS back in late February. This young man has been through a lot since his accident last year but his determination to return to what he loved never faltered. Elijah was very motivated and attended his rehabilitation sessions each week to restore and improve his physical function. This was evident in how quickly he began to improve, so we had no doubt that Elija...h would achieve his goals. His main goal was to be able to return to his favourite gym Anytime Fitness independently and we can definitely say that he has succeeded in achieving this goal. Elijah still has a bit of work to do, but it's so great to see him back in the gym and on his way now to achieving his career goals. Great job Elijah! :D You have done yourself, your mum and us proud If you would like to read more about Elijah's journey, please read below the lovely post that Anytime shared with the information his lovely mum Vicky gave regarding the accident. As mentioned in the article, it was a very serious accident and a miracle he survived.

17.01.2022 In our COVID-conscious times, there’s already a good reason to shun the lift and now here’s another: taking the stairs helps maintain muscle and muscle helps to build a healthy immune system. If you have a healthy muscle mass across the lifespan then you have a reserve of amino acids that helps your immune system respond quickly to infection and disease. A healthy muscle mass can also help protect against the chronic diseases that can kick in with age, such as cancer.... "Regular exercise lowers the risk of some cancers and one reason may be because it maintains the quality of our muscle, keeping it lean. Physical inactivity, however, reduces its quality by increasing fat in the muscle." Repost Exercise Right #ExerciseRight #ExerciseIsMedicine

17.01.2022 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and today is Pink Ribbon Day - a campaign to raise awareness about breast and gynaecological cancers Every day in Aus...tralia, around 65 women are told they have breast or a gynaecological cancer. A new study adds to existing evidence linking physical activity to longer survival in women diagnosed with breast cancer. Our data strongly suggest that the more consistently active patients were, the better they did, said lead author of the study. Being physically active after a breast cancer diagnosis is a great way survivors can take control and feel empowered on their quest for health! Movement is medicine! 12.01.2022 Repost Exercise Right Movement is Medicine - trust an expert to prescribe it. There's a lot (and we mean A LOT) of advice out there when it comes to exercise. Some of it is great, some is a bit iffy and some is downright scary! ... With all the conflicting advice and fitness fads, it can be hard to know what to believe. If you want to see a exercise professional to help you stay active, here are some tips: Always find out the qualifications of the person giving advice. There's a lot of so-called "experts" out there, but they're not all created equal. We recommend you trust someone who is a) university qualified and b) accredited with Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA). ESSA is the peak governing body of exercise professionals in Australia and their members are required to meet strict professional practice requirements. There's over 6,500 ESSA accredited exercise experts in Australia (click the link in bio to find one near you). If you have any chronic health issues, then it's vital you seek advice from an Accredited Exercise Physiologist. They are allied health professionals who are specially trained to prescribe exercise as medicine for a range of chronic conditions and injuries. Their services are claimable under Medicare and most private health insurers. Chat to your GP about a referral or click the link in bio to find an exercise physiologist near you. Lastly, it's important to find someone who makes you feel safe and comfortable. Want to find an expert to help you to "exercise right"? Then contact us today to have a chat about how we can help you. #TrustAnExpert #ExerciseRightWeek2020 #MovementisMedicine

08.01.2022 Repost Exercise Right Living inside every person are trillions of bacteria, viruses, fungi and other microorganisms, collectively known as the gut microbiome. It plays a significant role in digestion, metabolism, immune function, brain health and mood. A disrupted balance of bacteria contributes to a range of disorders and diseases, such as obesity, inflammatory bowel disease and mental health conditions.... There are many factors that influence the bacteria in your gut, most commonly diet and how frequently you take antibiotics. Mounting evidence suggests exercise can also modify the types of bacteria that reside in your gut. Studies have shown even modest amounts of exercise can cause changes, and that different types of exercise have different effects. Specifically, exercise may help the good bacteria called 'A. muciniphila' stick to the stomach lining which helps to protect the bacteria from being carried out of the intestine with digested food. It’s a complex topic that’s continually evolving. Our key takeaway: EXERCISE can contribute to a healthy, balanced gut microbiome! #ExerciseRight See more

07.01.2022 We all know how to protect ourselves from Coronavirus - social distancing, frequent handwashing and wearing a face mask. But we also need to focus on boosting our IMMUNE SYSTEM! A study of the link between physical activity and the body's defense system found that EXERCISE can improve your immune system response, lower illness risk and reduce inflammation. Acute exercise (moderate to vigorous intensity lasting less than 1 hour) increases circulation of immune cells, making th...em roam the body at a higher rate and at higher numbers. These cells are important as they wipe out viruses. Participants in the study who did a 45 minute brisk walk, experienced the increase of immune cells for up to three hours after the walk. This response will eventually go away though so the key to an illness-clearing immune system is regular, ongoing exercise. If you need help to find ways to engage in regular exercise either in the gym or at home, then contact our team today. 01.01.2022 This week is PANDA Week - Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia. #PANDAWeek2020 @PANDANational For the last 15 years, PANDA has been raising awareness and reducing the stigma about perinatal mental illness. 1 in 5 expecting or new mothers and 1 in 10 expecting or new dads will experience anxiety and/or depression, affecting around 100,000 families across Australia every year. Having lost a baby last year, Perinatal Anxiety is definitely something both my partner and ...I have experienced throughout our current pregnancy. Exercise is something that we have utilised throughout this experience to help us channel those anxieties. We are very fortunate that we have had a good support system in place to help us through those feelings and we have a good understanding of the symptoms associated with perinatal anxiety and what triggers those feelings for us. It’s hard some days but with good support from medical professionals, friends and family as well as regular exercise it can help improve your mood, boost your energy and assist in improving your sleep quality. Remember, Exercise is Medicine! If you think this might be you, it's okay to not be okay...you are not alone! The key to getting help is to recognise that something is wrong and be brave enough to ask for help. To learn more about the triggers, symptoms and where to get help check out Exercise Right blog: exerciseright.com.au/perinatal-depression/ A great way to get started with exercise is reaching out to our team of Accredited Exercise Physiologists.
