20.01.2022 "The Good News, the gospel of Jesus, was that the Kingdom of God was here, not an empire or a nation state with borders and weapons, but an experience of the sacred, a sacred world, already around us, among us, planted like seeds, growing like trees" - Anthony Well worth a listen

19.01.2022 We know that sovereignty was never ceded, and that injustice continues to this day. These are words the Activate community utters in acknowledgment as we gather on Kaurna land each week. But acknowledgment is meaningless without action. Our community can and will do more to amplify the voices of First Nations People and advocate for change. ... Today our community made the commitment to internal action with the development of a Reconciliation Action Plan. Moving forward, we seek to engage more fully with movements to stop Aboriginal deaths in custody and to implement the Uluru Statement from the Heart. This week’s NAIDOC theme is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ - a recognition and celebration that First Nations People have occupied and cared for this land for 65,000+ years. We acknowledge this land’s First Peoples as inventors, engineers, artists, farmers, peacekeepers, explorers, and spiritual teachers - predating invasion by tens of thousands of years. We celebrate the oldest living culture on this earth. #NAIDOC2020 #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe

19.01.2022 Wishing everyone a beautiful time this Christmas and New Years! We’ve had an amazing beginning to the Christmas period, with our gingerbread house party making an excellent start to the the fundraising efforts for Rashid, Taslemah and Rohan, along with some amazing carols last Sunday. We now head into our annual Activate Christmas tradition of having a couple of weeks rest. There will be no gathering on the 25th, 27th, or 3rd. On the 10th of January we will gather for a casual picnic, details to be confirmed. Regular gatherings will start from the 17th January. We’ll see you then!

15.01.2022 As followers of Jesus, we have a responsibility to work toward a more just and empowered society - listening to and standing in solidarity with the marginalised and oppressed. In the lead up to Survival Day (January 26), our community will be participating in two nation-wide events coordinated by Common Grace, led by Aboriginal Christian Leaders: ***This Sunday, 10:30am: Aboriginal Sunday***... Some 80 years ago, Aboriginal Christian Leader William Cooper called on faith communities to act in solidarity with Aboriginal Peoples, on the Sunday directly before January 26. This coming Sunday we answer this call and will utilise resources prepared by Common Grace, listening to and being led by Aboriginal Christian Leaders, as part of our regular Sunday gathering. ***January 25, 7:00pm: #ChangeTheHeart call to prayer** Across the country, Christian communities will livestream Aunty Jean Phillips’ call to prayer, praying in unison to #ChangeTheHeart. Our Chapel will be open for any who wish to watch the livestream together. We welcome you to join us in solidarity with First Nations Peoples.

14.01.2022 It's a week on from Christmas but it's always a good time to pause and reflect. Check out Kerrie's Christmas message, it's a good reminder for us all (regardless the time of year!) "Christmas Day need not be a time where we have to conjure up abstract feelings of joy and celebration rather, Christmas Day is a reminder that darkness is not the end. Darkness marks the time of beginning again." - Kerrie

14.01.2022 Although Christmas has strong associations with gift giving, the Christmas story is not about charity. Charity is the voluntary giving of help to those in need, and that giving is a commendable and loving response to the growing hardship around us. But it’s not what the baby in the manger points us towards, and where it is interpreted as such it neglects the deeper meaning of the Christian narrative that is, to encourage us to consider why that need exists in the first pl...ace. This child Jesus would become an adult who, practicing non-violence and habitually breaking social norms of exclusion, would demonstrate true humanity by giving up personal power and privilege in solidarity with people shamed, ignored and exploited by those who benefited from the unjust economic and cultural structures of the day. https://www.theguardian.com//charity-is-the-more-comfortab

06.01.2022 We see God revealed through our environment. We already see the suffering caused by climate change. We stand with First Nations communities, school students, unions, and more for this year’s Strike for Climate. #christianstogetherforclimate #fundourfuturenotgas

04.01.2022 A few weeks ago we shared a letter to God...and perhaps this is how they chose to respond? Thank you Emma for your beautiful words once again. http://activatechurch.org.au/dear-human/

04.01.2022 If you could write to God today, what would you say? Here Emma, one of our Activate family, shares exactly that. http://activatechurch.org.au/dear-universe-god-creator-lord/

04.01.2022 On this day of mourning, invasion and survival, the Activate community stands in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. #ChangeTheHeart

04.01.2022 Activate members have helped make sure this family are housed and healthy, and that baby Rohan was delivered safety. Can you help them now too? https://welcoming.org.au/donate/rashid-and-taslima/

02.01.2022 Sexuality and orientation is an intrinsic quality and a God-given part of who we are. It should be celebrated, not censored. Activate fully embraces LGBTQIA+ people into the life, service and leadership of our church. We stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community both in the church and outside.... Activate is grounded firmly in the belief that people of all genders, of all sexualities, from all ethnic backgrounds, of all abilities, of all ages and of all belief systems are welcomed and fully included in Jesus’ Kingdom. Last night, we held a Pride Party as part of Pride March’s COVIDSafe ‘Pride Where You Are’ event. And you can bet we’ll be loudly marching come Pride 2021. #PrideADL20

02.01.2022 Rashid and Taslemah are Rohingya refugees, left to survive in Cambodia and raise their baby Rohan with no government support. The family has a unique opportunity to start a new life in Canada via a community sponsorship visa - if $30,000 can be fundraised to support the application and the family’s establishment in the country. This Advent, the Activate community has focused on making a starting contribution to this fundraising effort, and in the past three weeks we’ve raise...d just over $5,000. While this is a fantastic achievement by our community, it’s just the beginning of the effort to get this sponsorship visa happening. With your support Rohan, Rashid and Taslemah can make the dream of a brighter future a reality. The fundraising effort is moving beyond the Activate community in 2021, and we’re looking for volunteers to join the team doing that work - just direct message the page and we’ll like you in. Donate and read more about baby Rohan’s story here: https://welcoming.org.au/donate/baby-rohan/

02.01.2022 "Yet so often we speak of Jesus in symbolic terms. This isn’t wrong in itself but there’s an element that brushes over the detail. It skips past the everyday experiences that we know all too well pain, grief, frustration, elation, terror, excitement, loneliness, hollowness. Our nativity scenes and Christmas carols display romanticised images of Mary, Joseph and Baby Dot-Point in ways that are somehow meant to make us feel something. And then when confronted with stories of real struggle, real heartache and real injustice, there’s a sense of delayed reaction as we slowly make the connections between this story and that." http://activatechurch.org.au/mary-joseph-and-baby-dot-point/

01.01.2022 "Jesus was anyone and everyone who has ever known exclusion, prejudice, abuse and exploitation, Jesus was anyone and everyone who has ever been the victim of injustice, violence, manipulation, fraud or public shame. And that Jesus is God. That is our God." - Brad (click below to listen!) This is also a great message if you are wanting to know more about the fundraiser for Rashid, Taslemah and Rohan ! You can donate here https://welcoming.org.au/donate/baby-rohan/

01.01.2022 An interesting thought connecting the roots of religious festivals & cycle of feasts to the seasons of the earth. What could this mean for Advent, a season of 'holy darkness'? Like the earth, we embrace rest, re-creation, and set aside old dreams in the emergence of something new.
