06.01.2022 MOTIVATION MONDAY Here are a couple learnings from one of our beautiful patients... Keep Moving... I was watching The Biggest Loser and their mantra is Keep Moving. Immediately I felt guilty that I wasnt doing enough, blaming CFS or bad sleep for not being active. I finally motivated myself to pull out some grass that we are turning into a veggie patch when my mind went light bulb!! Rest doesnt have to mean not moving and keep moving doesnt have to mean hard core. I am constantly being told to rest which equates to sitting on the couch in front of the TV for hours. Some days this is genuinely needed but mostly this isnt the case. Why not use the ads (very short on demand!!) to move. Put the kettle on which means next ads getting up to make a cuppa. Why not stand up and stretch, do heel lifts or squats, a few wall push ups. Why not spread out cleaning the kitchen over the course of the day during ads or between shows? It doesnt have to be big, but you will get there. Those 5 reps will turn to 6 and 6 to 7. That 2 minute walk will get to 3 then more. For us its not about pulling the big numbers as they say on the ranch. It is about changing our lives one small step at a time. Its about being consistent and increasing our baseline at our pace, so we can manage our symptoms and reach our own goals. You CAN do this. 5 minutes (or less) Sitting in my chair I look out onto a few of our garden beds and all I see is weeds. The feeling of guilt and failure washes over me time and time again as I realise how much Im letting my husband down. My mum came over shortly after this and I took her on a tour of the garden. It ended by a garden bed that is hip height. We stood there talking and she started to weed. I realised, well if I can stand here for 5 minutes talking, I can weed for 5 minutes. That moment has changed me. Over the coming months I managed to weed 6 of my 10 garden beds and cleared grass from another. I realised I dont have to complete a task if I start it that day. 5 minutes, one box, one table, one tile to clean. My life has transformed. I now tackle a task as: 5 minutes, have a cuppa and rest, 5 minutes and repeat. Before I knew it I was gardening for 20 minutes without any symptoms. This proves the theory of start small and focus on one small piece because looking at the whole picture can be overwhelming. 5 minutes, thats all it takes to change your life. Keep up the amazing work Jacinta!! Its not WHAT, its HOW!! If you know anyone who needs a little inspiring, tag them below!
