25.01.2022 I had the pleasure of spending the day with Merrin Martin at Filex 2018. Watched this very talented lady present on buns of steel (all about activating the glutes). I had fun presenting my topic on the ultimate guide to thoracic mobility. # filex18 # thoracic mobility # buns of steel
23.01.2022 Keep fit and active... the right way I recently had two patients come and see me for awful injuries after returning to netball after 20 years of inactivity and no regular fitness regime. The First Lady decided to return to netball now that her kids were at school and she could enjoy the social get together. After 10 minutes of playing, she was sent off the court with a torn ACL ( major ligament in the knee). The second lady was sent off after only 2 minutes of play with a r...uptured Achilles Tendon. As we age, our joints, muscles and connective tissue become less mobile and response time, balance and proprioception changes. If you are keen to return to sport and havent done anything in a while, please get back into the gym for 6 months and ease your way back to fitness. You are far less likely to injure yourself that way. REMEMBER: You only ever get given one body... for life #injury prevention # keeping active # ageing gracefully See more

22.01.2022 [RESEARCH] It is well-known that exercise during chemotherapy can lessen treatment-related side effects, such as fatigue, pain, and nausea. A recent randomized... trial, the Dutch PACT study, is the first study to show that people who are physically active during treatment maintain higher levels of physical activity in the long run, and this is really important for their health and well-being. In the past, patients were often told to rest and reduce their physical activity during treatment, but we now know that exercise is both safe and highly beneficial. As this study shows, exercising during cancer treatment can also make a significant impact on survivors health and quality of life over the long term. Our PINC & STEEL Cancer Rehab Physiotherapists actively help people to exercise both during and after their cancer treatment. https://journals.lww.com/oncology-tim//articleviewer.aspx #exercisemedicine #pincandsteel

21.01.2022 Today marked the day of my final shift at the Commonwealth Games Physiotherapy clinic inside the athletes village. Overall, its been a truly amazing experience. The most frequently documented injuries were hamstring strains and tears. Some injuries were as a result of poorly managed ongoing niggles that had not had the benefit of Physiotherapy intervention and adequate rehabilitation. These athletes presented with lack of hip extension drive through the gluteus maximus, but, most, an impressive hamstring range. ( Put in laymans terms, sleepy glutes or a lazy arse ). Keeping adequate muscle length will help reduce risk of injury but more muscle length also means more range to control. The take home message for the average Joe out there is, KEEP YOUR MUSCLES LONG and STONG
20.01.2022 Happy new year. May your aches and pains be ... minimal and you happiness ... plenty
19.01.2022 Spring is here and during this time your child is growing more than any other time of the year. So dont forget to encourage them to foam roll and stretch more than usual to help keep that spring in their step. This can reduce their risk of Severs and Osgood Schlatters Disease. Happy Saturday. Enjoy the
16.01.2022 After yet another busy and exciting day at the Commonwealth Games Village Physiotherapy clinic, we had a steady influx of athletes. So far we have had a large amount of hamstring injuries, especially with the sprinters, due to the explosive nature of the sport. These athletes have long and strong muscles, yet due to overload, injury. We are working with a great medical team that can help us diagnose the severity of the injury using ultrasound. When you injure a hamstring, it... may just be a pulled muscle but you can also tear the muscle, Grade I,II or III and depending on the size and site of the tear will determine how long you are out of action for. It can take days, weeks and even months to return to sport. This is why diagnostic ultrasound is so good to help in planning the athletes rehabilitation and why Physiotherapy intervention is of utmost importance The opening ceremony is tonight. Be sure to watch the action on TV

To book in for a consultation call us on 02 9451 9014
16.01.2022 Yesterday was day 4 of my working experience. The clinic was a little quieter as athletes prepared for the spectacular opening ceremony. I took one of my athletes into the gym to do some much needed balance training he requires for his upcoming long jump event. I was surprised that he had never used the BOSU in his workouts before. The BOSU ball is a great way to add proprioception and balance to your training regime and is highly recommended in your workout. Not only does it add variety to your exercise, but plays a major role in reducing risk of injury. Life is all about balance but not always possible, however, it can be in your exercise regime... cardio, strength and conditioning, foam rolling, stretching and a little bit of balance.
15.01.2022 Proud to be a cancer rehab Physio. We do private rehab sessions using Clinical Pilates Rehab principles.
15.01.2022 Today I got to work with a multi-talented group of Physiotherapists and athletes. I have been humbled by the athletes amazing achievements and their drive and determination. One young athlete had never had Physiotherapy before and while lying on the treatment table, enthusiastic and ready to conquer the world, she asked me, So, hows life? Such is life... a gift. Tomorrow sees me completing my last work shift at the Commonwealth Games. While working on the athletes, we have been rewarded with pins from their country. My favourite, the turtle from Cayman Islands. Sometimes, its the small things that count

13.01.2022 Day 4: Exciting swimming event... Gold medals...Physiotherapy support to the UK and Italy... Hug from competitor... Competitor marriage proposal at end of event. She said YES Fancy seeing Ian Thorpe at the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre I am the master of my fate... I am the captain of my soul. I was humbled by these wounded warriors as I watched a triple amputee swim his way to victory# IG2018
13.01.2022 My time at the Invictus Games has come to an end. I have been humbled by beautiful stories of hardship and courage and blessed to have helped those who never gave up and believed they could keeping going. On my first day, I met a man who had sustained a brain injury during his service in the army. He was still able to function at work and do what he was used to doing but really struggled at home. He told me it took many years for the doctors to work out the right combination ...of medication to help him through his day... AND... one day they got it right and his son said, Ive got my dad back. I witnessed a triple amputee swim a race with one arm and even though he didnt win the race, he was unconquered and beaming with pride at the finish line... AND, then I realised when a thought pops into my head like, I wish I had smaller calves. It really doesnt matter. Dont sweat the small stuff
13.01.2022 Today I had the great privilege of talking with dual Olympian athlete, Jodi Winter and her clients at Fitness Avenue in Warriewood. We focused on injury prevention for golf & tennis and the ultimate guide to mobility for these sports in particular. Golf and tennis, like other sports; require speed, flexibility, power and strength, all of which decline with age. Pelvic floor and core activation is the foundation to keeping injury free and correct breathing helps to keep t...Continue reading
13.01.2022 Feeling determined to educate the people of the world Not all foam rollers are created equally. Sometimes its worth spending a few extra dollars to get a high density foam roller that will last and stand the test of time. Take care of your posture while foam rolling. You need to engage your core muscles so that you keep your back happy and neutral when you roll. THE FOAM ROLLER IS TRUELY MAGIC AND CAN HELP YOU STAY INJURY FREE. Use as part of your daily exercise routine
13.01.2022 When you stretch your front thigh and hip flexors, choose the BOSU in the gym or cushions on the floor at home. Be as upright as you can and tuck the pelvis under, rather than pushing the thigh forwards. This better position will help keep the hip ball more centred in the socket and less vulnerable to injury. Compliment the stretch by foam rolling the thighs before. This all helps the pelvic floor and core switch on better. It definitely sounds like the hip bone is connected to the thigh bone
12.01.2022 A day off in the sun watching swimming at the aquatic centre. What a terrific experience
10.01.2022 So... I thought I would use Dr Google to see what would come up in my search for exercises post pregnancy and I was quite concerned. Never underestimate the huge changes that take place on your body during pregnancy and remember that we are all affected differently. Once you receive the all clear from your GP six weeks after birth, do not dive head first into crazy exercise mode. Slow and steady is recommended for 6 months. DO NOT do sits ups. DO NOT do yoga poses where a...rms and both legs are off the floor. DO NOT give cute baby cuddles with your head lifted off the floor and both legs in the air. All these exercises place too much pressure on your pelvic floor and core. It is highly recommended to have a Physiotherapy Consultation for any pelvic floor and core issues, as conventional exercise alone will not help. Be kind to your body. Get plenty of rest and choose exercise that you love to keep you motivated. See more
09.01.2022 A big thank you to all the lovely ladies that attended the Active Anatomy workshop this evening. We discussed techniques to improve thoracic mobility and had a laugh and a cry in releasing those tight spots. Everyone left feeling fabulous. Key take home message: dont forget to keep breathing when exercising and by breathing correctly in your daily life, helps keep your thorax mobile Thank you to Village Pilates for letting us use your exercise space and thank you to Top2toefitness for your company. #breathe for life #Village Pilates #Top2toe Fitness #the ultimate guide to thoracic mobility
07.01.2022 Day 1: Invictus Games journey On my first day with the medical team at the Invictus Games I was humbled by the stories told by wounded soldiers. It was an absolute pleasure to help individuals from all nations during yesterdays rowing training. Day 2: Today I was offering my Physiotherapy service at the Sitting Volleyball. What great competition amongst the closely matched teams. Teams were made up of men and women who were physically and mentally differently abled. These athletes stood together... brave and strong and unconquered. What an amazing sense of comradery. Well done teams
07.01.2022 Daily stretching helps keep our joints feeling juicy. But incorrect stretching can be as detrimental as doing nothing at all. When stretching your calves, keep your feet facing 12 o clock so that you can stretch both inside and outside of calf muscles to get a good stretch. Hold 30 sec to a minute. Repeat 3 times each side. The back knee can be straight to stretch the Gastrocnemius and back knee bend for a Soleus stretch#correctstretching # strongbeyondyouryears
05.01.2022 Day 3: Video shows moments before a nail biting finish. Georgia took out the UK and won GOLD at the sitting volleyball event at the Invictus Games. The day was exciting. The atmosphere was buzzing. The athletes were pumped... victorious... unconquered...
