24.01.2022 Are you ready for some afternoon training sessions? We have now added into our weekly time table a 4:30pm Tuesday and 4:30pm Thursday group PT session. These session will kick off this week.

24.01.2022 Juggling a baby on one hip and reaching out for bottle or dinner plates with the other hand requires a lot of core, back and butt strength. So does pulling out the folded-up stroller out of the back of the car. The single leg RDL strengthen the back, the core and the butt. Exactly what all mums need when picking babies, carrying laundry, and getting the groceries out of the car and into the house. We start with the straps and then progress to a single dumbbell loading the opp...isite side of the working leg. For more information on post natal recovery send us a PM. Jo & Emm

23.01.2022 Trying to find time at home to stop and do your physio prescribed exercises with children around is like trying to find the end of the rainbow. Therefore we have a number of mums who come into the studio and work on their physio prescribed exercises during our group PT sessions. We can incoperate the exercises into your fitness program, making sure that any other exercises we add in are not going to make things worse. If there are movements that you need to avoid we are ve...ry mindful of these and will exclude them from your program. To have a chat to Emmylyn or myself about your physio prescribed exercises send us a PM via this page or send an email at [email protected]. Jo & Emm

20.01.2022 I got to spend the afternoon with a beautiful mum working on her personal values today. She always signed up for challenges and quick fixes hoping it would be the golden ticket to permanent weight-loss. But after the challenges are finished, the detox was complete, the meal plan was over she would convert back to old habits. Gaining all the weight back again. It wasn't till today when she realized that the values she had been living by where not her values at all. They belo...nged to her mother, her grandma and the men of past relationships. Others have told her that she has to be "strong" but all this mum wanted to do was to find "softness". So when challenges came up this was her chance to show others how strong she could be. Then when the challenged finished she relaxed back into her own values. Sadly the thoughts in her mind belittled her for this. Not being good enough, not living up to expectations. But when we realigned her with her own values and truths everything just feel into place. She walked in confused lost and exhausted. She walked out confident, calm and centered. This was a massive break through for this mum and why I love incorporating my counselling skills in with my PT clients. If you would like to take part in a discovery session, you can send me a PM via this page or jump over to Be Brave Counselling and PM me there. Be brave and reach out, Jo Lamond Xx

19.01.2022 More self control is not the answer to emotional eating! Emotional eating begins when we turn to food for stress-relief, comfort, or companionship instead of looking at food as fuel for our bodies. Food can provide a break in routine and a temporary moment of pleasure, but the moment is fleeting. The aftermath of emotional eating is guilt, which prompts us to seek soothing and leads back to food for comfort. The initial feelings that triggered the emotional eating remained... unaddressed so they resurface, now coupled with disappointment, hopelessness, and powerlessness. Emotional eating is a form of control. You are trying to control your emotions. Emotional eating will only stop when you give up the control and accept your emotions. Trying to self control yourself around food that you use to control your emotions is only going to lead to binge eating. If you are struggling with emotional eating or binge eating, be brave and reach out. We can book you in for a one on one mindset discovery session. During this session we will identify your limiting beliefs and start to break through those emotional roadblocks that keep coming up for you. PM me for more information. 18.01.2022 When your body gets stubbon and won't let go of the weight you are trying so hard to lose, what do you do? Firstly, have compassion for yourself. There is no use beating yourself up. After being a PT for over 10 years I could give you a list of things to try, but the most likely reason you are not losing weight is because you are still fighting against yourself in your head. Ok yes, you could cut your carbs more, you could increase your intensity. You could count your macr...os and maybe replace your snacks with a protein shake. But that is all external work. If you really want to lose the weight and keep it off for good, you need to do the internal work. You need to get right with your mindset. Challenge those limiting beliefs, let go of thoughts that are not helpful, rediscover your values and make daily choices based upon moving towards them. Emotional eating is not going to go away until you start to get curious about what is really going on. This is not a quick fix and I know you have been searching for one for so long. But it is time to do the deep work if you genuinely want to change your life. When you start to align with your values, allow your emotions and let go other of belittling thoughts then your internal world changes. Before you know it, your life will start shifting and everything will finally fall into place for you. If you would like to incorporate some mindset discovery sessions into your fitness training, please send me a PM and we can set up a session next week to start removing those mental roadblocks. Be brave and reach out, Jo Lamond @Be Brave Counselling

17.01.2022 Know that you can stop your workout at anytime to attend to your baby. Breastfeed, nappy change or just comforting cuddles.

15.01.2022 Apply the same determination to weight loss that you would to anything else. There are setbacks in careers and relationships, but we don't give up on them. Why give up on health and happiness so easily?

14.01.2022 We have now added in a Tuesday and a Thursday 4:30pm group PT session each week. There are 4 spots open in each session. Sessions are $20 each. PM us for more details.

12.01.2022 Loving our new afternoon group PT sessions. Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 4:30pm.

11.01.2022 I am working on putting together a workshop for mums who would like to take the time to learn how to activate their core and pelvic floor correctly during their fitness sessions in the studio or at home during a home workout. This would be a 2 hour workshop. The first hour we will be covering anatomy, 360 breathing, core and pelvic floor activation. In the second hour we will be learning how to incoperate all of this with movement. After the workshop you we have access to my... 6 week pelvic floor and core home program. This program is great for post natal mums, women with slight leakage, prolapse or diastasis recti. If you could choose the time and day I put the workshop on, what day and time would you choose? If you would be interested in attending a workshop like this please comment with your name below. I will PM you when we have a set day and time. - Jo Lamond

10.01.2022 Pregnant mums, you can train in the studio right up to your due date. Your exercises will be modified each trimester for you. Postnatal mums will need to wait till they have had their 6 week check up and bub has had their first needles. If you have had a c-section, you will need to wait 8 weeks.

10.01.2022 As priorities shift after a mum has her baby and as the people around the mum focus on the baby instead of her she begins to care less for herself and more for ...her child. This mind-set doesn't change as the child grows, either. But it's not just a lack of sleep, the understandable shift in priorities, the intense physical changes in the postpartum period or the myriad germs children seem to attract that's making and keeping mothers sick; it's our unwillingness to treat ourselves with the same care that we provide our children. Mothers are notoriously bad at asking for help, a byproduct of our "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" culture that has attached a person's worthiness to their ability to act entirely independent of anyone else. Mums in particular are judged by their resourcefulness and capacity for self-sacrifice, regardless of the personal cost. But if we encouraged mothers to help themselves as often as they help their children, if we believed mums when they said they are sick or in pain, perhaps we wouldn't have the worst maternal mortality rate in the developed world. Perhaps fewer mothers would be feeling isolated, alone and overwhelmed. Perhaps motherhood could becomes far less like a chore and far more joyful. In order to change the worthiness programming you have in your mind, you must stop acting like your worth is conditional and you must stop believing that you need to improve or change in any way, in order to gain worth. Looking to the outside world of people or things for your worth keeps you trapped in a vicious cycle with no way out. The outside world cannot give you worth! In fact, no one can give it to you and no one can take it away. This means that you must stop making your worth dependent on anything or anyone. You must claim your worth once and for all, and own it forever. The biggest thing I see mums do is they put everyone else before themselves. Guess what this does to your internal programming? It confirms that not even you believe you are worthy. What if you gave yourself the same love and attention as you do your children? Change starts with you. You have to show yourself you are worthy. You need to make the choice to put yourself first. Only then will things start to change. If your ready for change, be brave and reach out. Jo Lamond Xx

09.01.2022 Bookings for workshop now OPEN! Anxiety & Motherhood Workshop 5th December 2020, 9am - 11am Limited to 8 ladies. ... A little insight into what you will learn: A negative thought will come into your mind. The negative thought provokes negative emotions. Before you know it you are trying to suppress / avoid these internal experiences by doing some externally. (eating, smoking, drugs, cleaning, alcohol, binge watching t.v ect.) During our sessions together I will teach you to break down the thoughts, emotions and behavior that are becoming destructive in your life. I will then give you to tools you need to find a 5 second window which I call the "moment of awareness". In this window you will mentally be able to interrupt your old patterns of behavior and insert new ones based on your core values. Imagine a future version of you who is living the way she truly wants. She’s in love with her life and proud of how she shows up for herself. She feels confident and powerful and she knows who she is, what she wants and where she’s going. She no longer allows herself to make excuses or play small. And she has figured out how to keep rising no matter what life throws her direction. Can you imagine her? The most important relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. It is time to take care of your feelings and needs and bring healthy balance into your life. Whether you are a mum-to-be, new mum, mum of teens, or empty nest mum, we can work through using a simple process for any stage of life. I am a qualified professional counselor and I will be teaching aspects of ACT therapy during this workshop. ACT stand for commitment and acceptance therapy. You will have take home mindset tools and strategies, I have used myself to unhook from my anxiety and depression. I tried CBT for years, nothing worked until I found ACT. You can now book your spot, follow the link below. Jo Lamond Xx https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?embed&eid=687061

08.01.2022 Monkey see, monkey do. Everything you do, I do too. If you emotionally eat when you are stress, then I will learn to do that too. ... If you yell and scream when stressed, then I will learn to do that too. If you run away when things get tough, then I will learn to do that too. Even if you tell me to love my body, but you body shame yourself; I will do what you do, not what you say. To help our children, we need to first help ourselves. If you can learn to manage your stress, allow your emotions and to embrace who you are; they are going to follow in your footsteps. By focusing on you, you change your children. Jo Lamond Xx

08.01.2022 Can you feel your glutes burning? These mums smashed out their fitness assessments this week, so we had some time to spare at the end of the session to get in some extra glute work.

07.01.2022 You don't need to book in for a private PT to focus on your pelvic floor exercises with us. You have can have a whole pelvic floor dedicated program written up for you during a group PT session. You will be surprised that most of our mums during sessions are focusing on their pelvic floor too. Send us a PM for open session times.

07.01.2022 Can I squat and deadlift with a prolapse? Yes, you will want to focus on alignment, breath core and pelvic floor throughout each movement though. This reduces pressure, instead of creating it. Start from the ground for both movements. This allows you to exhale first, which gives your more control of your core and pelvic floor. Keen to learn how? Book in for a private one on one. Pm for open session times.

06.01.2022 Your station is ready for you.

03.01.2022 As Active Mums Fitness transitions into "BRAVE Collective" we will be offering a wider range of services that encourage woman to feel brave with their hearts, strong with their desires and gentle with their minds. Every woman needs support, knowledge and an understanding ally to thrive in her motherhood. We want to empower women to face the fears, tears and challenges, throughout their pregnancy and parenting journey. One of the services we will be offering is private counsel...ling specializing in - Post-Natal Depression Grief & Loss Anxiety & Motherhood Relationships & Conflict Resolution Art & Mindfulness Therapy I also like to incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) into my counselling approach. It is a kind of behavioral therapy that uses mindfulness to develop psychological flexibility, which further helps direct value-guided behavior. Through metaphor, paradox, and experiential exercises clients are taught to make healthy contact with thoughts, feelings, memories, and sensations that they might fear and avoid. You develop skills to recontextualise and accept your upsetting or painful thoughts and feelings. Moreover, you develop greater clarity about personal values, and commit to needed behavior change. This helps you to feel more peace within yourself. This therapy gets its name from its core theme: to show acceptance for what is out of your personal control and to commit to actions that improve your life. We welcome all mums into our collective. Which means you do not have to be participating in fitness sessions to take part in counselling sessions or workshops. My Qualifications - Diploma of Professional Counselling 2020 Relationship Counselling and Conflict Resolution Grief and Loss Counselling Expressive Therapies Mindfulness Based Therapies If you would like to know more about the new services we offer, reach out. Counselling sessions can be held in the studio or as a walk and talk session. Jo Lamond Xx

03.01.2022 We have all know that keeping fit will help you get the most out of life. But did you know that in the later half of your 30s you start losing muscle mass. This makes exercising during these years all the more important. As if you want to remain strong in your later years you need to flex those muscles.

02.01.2022 I feel so blessed and honored to be able to support so many women as they walk through their grief, anxiety and depression. On Friday I worked with a mum who has been in bed for the last few weeks. Today was the first time she got up, got dressed and left the house. If we stay small and closed off from others, grief / anxiety / depression will cover us like a weighted blanket. Keeping us down. For this mum to decide that this was not the path she was going to take anymore, ...it was super inspiring. If you ready to take off the weighted blanket of grief / anxiety / depression reach out. Go gently my lovely ladies. Jo Lamond Xx
