21.01.2022 Suffering from hay fever? Your allergy to pollen may also be contributing to sensitivities to certain foods. Most people with pollen allergies cross-react with ...two or more foods, which may cause symptoms such as itching, tingling, and swelling of the mouth, lips and throat, but it may also show up as less common allergy symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and eczema. This is a condition known as oral allergy syndrome and is a result of cross-reactivity between different proteins. The proteins found in pollen, are structurally similar to the proteins founds in other plant foods, including raw vegetables, fruits, seeds and nuts. As a result, the immune system sees them as identical and reacts to them in the same way. So, for example, if youre allergic to pollen, you may also find that eating certain fruits or vegetables sparks your allergy symptoms. If you suffer from seasonal hay fever, watch out for these common cross-reactive foods: Birch pollen: apples, carrots, celery, pears, tomatoes, cherries and tree nuts Goosefoot pollen: banana, melon and peach. Particularly sensitive people may also experience allergy symptoms after eating nectarine, asparagus, kiwi, potato, olives and/or onion Mugwort pollen (weed): carrot, celery, aniseed and peach Ragweed pollen: melon, cucumber, banana and sunflower Timothy grass: apple, litchi, tomato, celery, corn, capsicum and paprika

20.01.2022 Do you experience excessive bloating all the time? Or abdominal discomfort, excess wind or altered bowel habits? Even though you are eating healthily? It may b...e due to to FODMAPs. What are they? FODMAP is an acronym that stands for: F - fermentable O - oligosaccharides D - disaccharides M - monosaccharides A - and P - polyols FODMAPs are a group of naturally occurring sugars found in foods that are poorly absorbed in the small intestines. Once they reach the large intestines, the bacteria there use the unabsorbed sugars as a food source. The sugars get fermented by the bacteria which results in the release of gases, which can lead to excessive wind, bloating, abdominal distension and pain. FODMAPs can be a trigger for IBS. IBS may be helped by keeping FODMAP foods to a minimum, while improving digestive function.

18.01.2022 Did you Know? Chronic stress leads to negative changes in the gut, while relaxation promotes gut health. And in reverse, poor gut health exaggerates our stress levels, while improvement in gut health lowers stress. Isnt it time that you addressed your stress levels before it wreaks havoc to your gut and health?

13.01.2022 Did you know that stress causes an imbalance in your gut bacteria? We all know that our gut flora is absolutely vital to our digestive health, but stress change...s its composition in our gut, shifting it in a less favorable manner. Under chronic psycho-social stress, mice develop a condition called dysbiosis, the relative overabundance of bad bacteria coupled with low amounts of good bacteria in the gut. This imbalance is associated with digestive problems like IBS and Crohns disease. Not only does stress alter the balance of our bacteria, it also reduces our guts microbial diversity. Interestingly, the less diverse our gut bacteria, the more likely we are to be overweight and have allergy problems! See more
