12.01.2022 Times are challenging for a lot of Australians now, and its more important than ever to look after your mental health. Here are some great ways to protect you...r mental health during the COVID-19 epidemic: 1) Practice good sleep hygiene - Poor sleep quality can leave you moody and irritable. Implementing good habits, like maintaining a regular bedtime and limiting screen time before bed, can help you to get some shut-eye. 2) Stay physically active - Moving regular helps to boost your feel-good hormones and can help to protect you from mental health conditions like anxiety and depression. 3) Limit sedentary time - Being at home all the time means that you may spend more time sitting than normal. Set an alarm to make sure youre getting up regularly and moving around. 4) Make time to relax - Whether its yoga, mindfulness, meditation or simply a long, hot bath, its important to take some time out for yourself! If youre feeling overwhelmed and need to talk to someone, remember you can always call Lifeline on 13 11 14. #ExerciseRight #MentalHealthMatters

10.01.2022 DO YOU HAVE PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE WITH EXTRA COVER? Make sure that you dont wast your benefits! The vast majority of private health funds calculate your annual maximum limits for services over a calendar year. With the year coming to an end, it means you have just a few weeks to use what is left of your cover! Dont throw away what could be hundreds-of-dollars worth of benefits because you didnt know. If you have extras cover your private health insurers will offer bene...fits up to a maximum value, calculated per person, per year. This is the money that you are paying to your insurer over the course of the year. Depending on your plan, you will be allocated different maximums to different services. Then as you move up in the value of your policy so too will your benefits and the treatments that are covered. Make sure you use what youre paying for! Remember, If youve got some ongoing problems, or youre looking to start your physiotherapy treatment, the end of the year is the perfect time to use up what is left of your benefits to kick start your treatment. 04.01.2022 Reality Check - Hemp seeds & Oil You may have noticed Hemp seeds and hemp oil on the shelf at supermarkets. Hemp as food was previously unknown in Australia but... can now be easily found in the health food section of major supermarkets and health food stores. You cant get high from hemp seeds or oil, but you can get healthy. The hemp seed and oils sold in supermarkets and health stores doesnt contain THC found in marijuana. THC is the chemical in marijuana that gets people high and is NOT in hemp seed or oil. Hemp has been consumed for hundreds of years worldwide including Europe, Canada and the United States of America and was approved for sale in Australia in 2017 for human consumption. Hemp is a multipurpose sustainable crop. Its seeds can be used for food, and the remainder of the plant can be used for a variety of industrial, medical and antibacterial fabric purposes. How many other foods can boast that claim?! Hemp seeds contain protein, vitamins, minerals and polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly omega-3, and omega 6 fatty acids (2:1 to 3:1 ideal level for humans), vitamin E and other polyunsaturated fats. Which have been proven to be excellent for cardiovascular health. The seeds contain protein (24.5%) similar to soybeans and minerals such as phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulphur, calcium, iron, and zinc. It can be added to smoothies, breads, muffins, other baked goods, burger patties and made into a non-dairy milk. The oil has a green flavor to it and the seeds have a nutty flavor. If flax seeds or chia seeds leave you cold, then hemp seeds may be a great way to increase your omega 3 & 6 intake. #HempSeeds #Omega3 #Omega6 #GreenProtein #HealthyHeart #HealthyLiving #SustainablePlanet Sources: http://www.foodstandards.gov.au//g/hemp/pages/default.aspx https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2868018/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4740396/

04.01.2022 JUNK FOOD is usually high in fat and salt; and low in fibre and nutrients - which is bad for our health. Research has shown that Junk food also promotes the b...ad bacteria in our gut. Changing to a diet that is high in whole foods and high in fibre feeds the good bacteria and reduces the bad bacteria in the gut. The metabolism of the good gut bacteria produced products that has a positive effect on our inflammatory response (i.e. reduced allergies), mental health and appetite and therefore weight control. Good gut bacteria also reduces the risk of gut cancers and other complications. Therefore, eating healthy foods results in a healthy gut and improved overall health . See more
