As you all know, the world is currently experiencing a pandemic with the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) At Active Pilates & Sports Therapy, we believe all of us play a role in helping in the prevention of this virus. Our Clients Health & Safety at our Studio are of utmost importance. We are being extra diligent at the Studio to help prevent the spread of this Virus and are taking some extra precautionary measures. First and foremost, we kindly urge any Clients that have been feeling unwell, have any cold or flu like symptoms, or have recently just come back from overseas, to please NOT attend the Studio until you have been cleared of the virus and are symptom free. This would be greatly appreciated and is an extremely effective way to stop the spread of this virus. Thanks so much. This is known as the Spread Eagle with feet a little higher, in the fuzzy straps. ... These special straps allows you to flex the knees and access your hamstrings. I have a mild scoliosis in my mid back so, like many, I can get very stuck in this part of my spine which brings tension into my shoulders & neck. This Pilates exercise makes everything better There are many variations of the #spreadeagle you do not need to be inverted to feel the goodness. You can also do this by simply standing. HAMSTRINGS ABS SPINAL ARTICULATION (movement) Increase your challenge with a ball in between your knees for Your INNER THIGHS (adductors) Add a resistance band around your thighs for HIP STABILISERS (glute med/min) Put your feet up on a chair or coffee table for an extra an challenge on your HAMSTRINGS Add Pulses, single leg & arms up to keep challenging your body every week. SHOULDER STABILISATION (SERRATUS ANTERIOR) DEEP ABDOMINALS PELVIC STABILITY (GLUTES, QUADS) Some little tips: Keep your hips lifted Shoulders away from Your ears Come down onto your forearms if you feel it in your wrists or have any elbow issues no low back or neck tension INCREASE your Challenge by: Lifting one foot off the floor, single Leg Plank Pikes (articulate your spine as hips lift up to the ceiling) These little challenges are great to add some variation & really challenge your body as you build your strength. 14.01.2022 I deliberately wore my lucky white pants for this occasion to demo one of my favourite Joseph Pilates Original exercises (its a love hate relationship) but boy does it get your Deep Abs burning This exercises is all about the Deep Abdominal Burn. If you are not feeling it in those ABADABAS then we need to tweak it to make sure you do. In this video I do demo a few progressions so you can ease into the true version of HUNDREDS... THE MUSCLES THAT WILL BE DOING MOST OF THE WORK WILL BE: DEEP ABDOMINALS Eg. TRANSVERSUS ABS OBLIQUES PELVIC FLOOR RECTUS ABS (6 Pack) If you want to increase your challenge with the Props you will also add more activation to: HIP ADDUCTORS (inner thighs) HIP ABDUCTORS (outer bum muscles eg Glute med/min) To take it down a notch, keep your feet on the floor or Keep your head & shoulders on the floor. Only progress the exercise if you feel the Ab Burn. No Pain on your lower back or neck at all. Let me know if I can help you with this one if you need some more modifications. 09.01.2022 STRETCH IT OUT So grateful to be able to reopen our Studio doors - so I thought it was also a good time to talk about the STRETCHING that must be paired with the STRENGTHENING now that we are all getting back into our exercise routines A lot of us have used the last few weeks to rest & rejuvenate, which has been blissful. ... But ... as we all start to get back to our Pilates, Gym, CrossFit etc let’s remember with all resistance training must come an element of stretching those muscles out so that we can Train again without compromise to our Healthy bodies. Very simply - if we do not stretch & lengthen out tight/trained muscles, the next time you exercise you will just be tightening up those same muscles to the point where often pain/discomfort and possibly even injury can occur. This also can prevent you using the right muscles groups. Example: If your hip flexors are exhausted/tight, then your Deep abs often find it hard to Activate and switch on The problem = low back pain & achey hips! I will only do 7 Days of Vids (3 kore to go) which will give you a full class of Pilates if you put them all together. Then from there, I will only post more on request or Privately Eg. if you want something new or toning/strengthening a particular body part or a modification on an exercise already given, just so I dont risk selling my Soul ... Today I am adding on from yesterdays vid (Day 3) Still very much concentrating on activating those Deep Abs, but now also focusing a little more attention on the OBLIQUES ( Side abs). BRING BACK THE WAISTLINE TIP 1: If you start to feel tension in your neck, focus a lot more on lifting your shoulders (not head) a little higher and relaxing your head into your hands a little more, you will feel those Abs under your Ribs burn & that is . If you are still tight in that neck, lower your head & shoulders down onto the floor & just really concentrate on the leg movement for now. TIP 2: Remembering the 2 Pelvic positions; Neutral & Imprint. Neutral Spine - for those who have been doing these exercises for a while & have strong Abs. IMPRINT Spine - for those who are new to these exercises and are still building that Deep Ab Strength. (Imprint is when you pretend you have a berry under your low back & you gently squash that berry with your lumbar spine using your Obliques a little more to protect your spine, think Hips closer to Ribs) Thanks again for tuning in & coming along for the lockdown ride.
