24.01.2022 Hi everyone, This is post one of a short series regarding the NDIS. The NDIS is a very complex subject and I want to help South West Sydney locals to more deeply understand how to get the most out of an NDIS plan.... Having gone through the full Certification Audit (should I do a quick post about Certification vs Verification?) and having attended 12 workshops and webinars, I want to share what I have learnt. I have a few planned upcoming posts, however, if you let me know your questions, I’ll look to get to them in the coming weeks. I may not have all the answers, however, I’ve come across some very valuable information which is not widely known.

24.01.2022 An oldie, but a goodie. Disability, Resilience and Achieving the Supposedly Impossible: Jeanette Purkis at TEDxCanberra Key messages:... Characteristics of those on the Spectrum, "Honest, loyal, hard-working, committed, focus to a huge degree and have a great attention to detail" Build resilience through, 'controlled challenges'! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqdGb4TraFk

24.01.2022 This is post two of a short series regarding the NDIS. Plan utilisation ie. How much of your budget you end up spending is generally low, particularly in South West Sydney. Here’s two quick examples: Those with Cerebral Palsy, aged between 19 and 24, who live in South West Sydney, have an average plan utilisation of ~75%. ... Those with Autism, aged between 19 and 24, who live in South West Sydney, have an average plan utilisation of ~73%. Using example one, that means that ~$30-40,000 of a single persons yearly plan is being left un-used. There are two primary reasons for low plan utilisation, they are: not being able to access the type/s of services you feel will benefit you, and/or being NDIA managed and struggling to find registered providers Are you having trouble utilising your budget? Due to what reasons? I doubt it is because you’re being so well looked after that the additional funding is not required. Comment on your experiences and we can all try and help each other out. There is a new NDIS data portal which you should check out: https://data.ndis.gov.au/explore-data

22.01.2022 NDIS Participant Booklet 3 This is post three of a short series regarding the NDIS. Participant Booklet 3 is a document published by the NDIS detailing how you can use your plan. I have included a link to the document at the bottom of this post (if you want me to send you a pdf directly, just let me know).... One of the most important pages is page 10. Page 10 is designed to assist you to determine what you can spend your funding on. As will see, the questions are open to interpretation. The questions are designed to be answered by YOU, according to YOUR interpretation, hence the fact that they are contained within, ‘Participant Booklet 3’. The NDIS is big on CHOICE and CONTROL. Whether you are Plan or Self managed, you may want to complete a copy of the questions for services/supports/products that you utilise, as a record of the decision making process. This should make your Plan manager comfortable with any of your decisions and give you peace of mind if the NDIS want evidence of why you chose a certain service/support/product . https://www.ndis.gov.au//publicat/booklets-and-factsheets

18.01.2022 Over the last few months, its certainly been a challenging time to be focussing on your health and fitness. As things are starting to settle, we wanted to reach out and offer FREE 3D scans. Determine your baseline, with accurate measurements and an estimate of your body composition. See your body like never before!... There's no tricks here; if you're a local resident of Macarthur, and you want to get a 3D scan to help motivate yourself to make some positive changes in your life, then contact us and we'll sort it out. We only ask that you follow our COVID protocols which we'll take you through prior to the scan.

15.01.2022 Seeking expressions of interest! With youth sport / outdoor activities back on the cards, we’re keen to establish an ~8-10 week program for NDIS participants. A small group, step-by-step program learning the skills of a sport (basketball first time round) incorporated with learning social and behavioural skills. We are awaiting registration under additional NDIS categories, as such, at present, we can only work with participants who are eligible for Exercise Physiology if they are Agency-managed, otherwise if they are plan or self-managed we’re good to go. We’ll modify the program depending on participant numbers and ages.

15.01.2022 NDIS understanding your plan This is post four of a short series regarding the NDIS. It takes an average of 4 years before a participant becomes, ‘comfortable’ with understanding their NDIS plan. ... That statement alone is enough to make it clear that many people would benefit from increased assistance to figure out how they can best utilise their plan. The NDIS price guide is over 100 pages long and undergoes multiple updates each year. It’s understandable why so many people do not have a clear understanding of what they can spend their funding on. Everyone’s background is different and plans and goals are individualised, which makes it impossible to provide general advice. However, if you have a specific question about funding categories and/or would like some clarity on what to expect from a certain service, I'll do my best to answer or at least point you in the right direction.

11.01.2022 Ready for gold-standard assessment of your cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF)? Returning to exercise after a significant time off and want to determine your baseline and how intensely you should resume training? For a limited time we’re offering VO2 and RER assessments.... Assessment allows us to: - in the most accurate way possible, evaluate your cardiorespiratory fitness - create individually prescribed training zones to help you achieve your goals - determine the amount of energy you burn at rest; so that you can precisely tailor your food intake and break through weight loss plateaus The American Heart Association suggest all adults should have CRF assessments performed at least yearly (quarterly if you have diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension etc). CRF is directly related to the integrated function of numerous systems, and it is thus considered a reflection of total body health. The benefits of evaluating cardiorespiratory fitness via the gold-standard, VO2max assessment has long been established, however it has been out of reach of the vast majority of the population due to the very high costs associated with the equipment and experienced personnel required. We're here to change that! If you’re keen to learn more, send us as message and we’ll happily answer any questions you have
