25.01.2022 Have you woken up with a stiff neck? If it's your first time, you may be experiencing some muscular spasm and a locked up neck joint. You can try some heat with some gentle neck movement which may give you some relief... But if this is a recurring thing for you, then it may have something to do with the mobility of your spine. Yes, some people blame their pillow or their bed or their sleeping position, but that's not the whole story in my opinion. It's a lot easier to just change your pillow than to find out the source of your neck stiffness. That's why a lot of people try this option first. But it's just delaying the inevitable - the stiff neck will eventually come sooner or later. Restore proper movement of your entire spine and you can finally enjoy a good night's rest

18.01.2022 What exactly does a good Physio do? At Activ Therapy, we help our clients do three main things: 1. Rapidly recover from a recent, acute injury (eg. sprained their ankle over the weekend)... 2. Prevent recurrent injuries of the same region or body part (ie. make sure you stop spraining your ankle each season) 3. Identify ways to improve your biomechanics and get the most out of your body (turn your weaknesses into your strength) Simple enough. But not always easy. If you need help on any/all of the above, give us a call on 9822 7335 to book your initial appointment.

15.01.2022 Are you focused and performing at your best? The thing with pain is that the effects are not just physical. Most of my clients who I help come in with physical pain... but they don't realise until later that it was causing emotional pain which is actually why they sought my help.... Let me explain: If you have a headache or stiff neck, it might feel uncomfortable, painful, tender to touch, and your head may be pounding. That's the physical pain. But you may also feel grumpy, irritable, lacking confidence, moody, "not yourself", withdrawn, anti-social, "snappy" and/or a lesser version of yourself. Now that's emotional pain. Fortunately, our team specialises in diagnosing and treating muscular and skeletal issues If you need our help, give us a call on 9822 7335 to schedule your appointment

12.01.2022 Teaching @akayj13 how to breathe!! Many of us (myself included!) have a tendency to breathe into the upper chest rather than getting air into our diaphragm What happens here is that we lose the ability to generate intra-abdominal pressure and now we get back pain!... If you've had back pain for years, consider asking your local Physio for help.

09.01.2022 I've seen a lot of athletes that are "quad dominant" Usually they can squat very heavy but their deadlift numbers start to fall behind The "Good Morning" exercise is a great way to load up the entire Posterior Chain.... Place a very light weight on your shoulders and round the lower back (No Hip Hinge!) and control the movement down and up. No hip hinge and a rounded back - Isn't that dangerous?? I would argue that lifting heavy loads without proper strength and control of your lower back is more dangerous Practice with light loads and use higher reps. You should feel like your lower back, glutes, hamstrings and calves are all getting a good workout.

04.01.2022 Have you thought about what a Physio actually does? Don't they just rub your tight muscles, hook you up to a machine and then make you do a few exercises? If so, then you might be seeing the wrong Physio...... This is what we do at Activ Therapy: #1 Find out about your injury history and conduct an assessment to accurately diagnose your condition and find out what we're dealing with #2 Use proven effective hands-on treatment to reduce pain and restore proper motion of your muscles and joints in a matter of sessions (not months) #3 Restore strength and function of your body so that the problem doesn't come back again, giving you a long term solution to your pain. We're now back in action for 2021 - give us a call on 9822 7335 or send me a DM if you'd like to book in an appointment or have any questions

02.01.2022 Know someone that complains of tight hip flexors? They probably stretch and foam roll a lot to release the tightness but it always comes back The psoas is a hip flexor, but its main role is to maintain stability of the lumbar spine. ... It attaches to the vertebrae and the discs, so it has a massive role to play in preventing lower back pain and disc bulges or herniations. Have you ever considered that maybe your hip flexors are not the enemy?
