Chameleon is a stirring mash-up of satire, storytelling and physical comedy, smashing stereotypes, exploring gender dynamics, and the harmful effects of social conditioning. Running on Kaurna Land, the four-day workshop series for First Nations people interested in the arts will give participants a strong foundational understanding of the arts industry and knowledge of options for further training and employment.... 13.01.2022 As a part of #NAIDOCWeek we've been celebrating some of the fantastic artists we work with and have had the opportunity to share DECAMERON 2.0 with you in a physical space at Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute. We want to continue sharing DECAMERON 2.0 with State Theatre Company South Australia by sharing the monologue 'TEAHRNAH'. Written and directed by Alexis West, this piece performed by Elaine Crombie tells of TEAHRNAH, a woman speaking to her fear of being... pulled over and arrested by police whilst driving to the supermarket. This powerful monologue first appeared in the inagural episode of DECAMERON 2.0: Those Who Make Sacrifices. Content warnings for police brutality, racism and coarse language. 04.01.2022 #NAIDOCWeek continues and so do we in highlighting some of the fantastic Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists we work with. Today, we want to rave about Alexis West! A Birra Gubba, Wakka Wakka, South Sea Islander and Anglo Australian woman, Alexis has worked as a writer, director, collaborator and performer in film, theatre, poetry, dance and events. She’s worked with a number of organisations including No Strings Attached Theatre of Disability, Karrikarinya Theatre... Collective and Kurruru Youth Arts, and is currently a writer-in-residence at State Theatre Company South Australia. Our relationship with Alexis West started as every good relationship does, with a conversation. Conversations led to mentoring which led to being asked as lead artist and curator on the Arts Pathway Program. This year alone, Alexis has worked with us as key writer and director on DECAMERON 2.0 and delivered the fifth Arts Pathway Program just a few weeks ago. 02.01.2022 It's #NAIDOCWeek! And we're spending it celebrating some of our fantastic Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. First up? Kyron Weetra! A writer, actor, musician and comedian, Kyron is a 27-year-old Narrungan man living on Kaurna Land. He first started working with the company way back in 2014 on a tour through regional hospitals delivering a version of what is now Responding to Racism. Since then, he's worked on us to help create Like Me, Like You, and as a key writ...er on DECAMERON 2.0 with State Theatre Company South Australia. Outside of ActNow Theatre, Kyron lives for music (catch him in the bands 'Hello Newman' and 'Nobody's Inn'), has been in a number of theatrical productions and Adelaide + Edinburgh Fringe Festivals since leaving high school, AND carries a strong love for the Port Adelaide Football Club.
